Ok, K, nonTexan question. I thought the "H" was always for the Longhorns? As in "hook 'em"? Are they different gestures, or one all-purpose one, or... 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

If you haven't been to Año Nuevo yet, would recommend that for #7. Book a tour during pupping season, which is now. We went yesterday and saw this fella. Kind of a bro tbh. Throwing his considerable weight around to force us off our route.

There are similar prints on a vertical wall at the coast in Portugal, a bit north of Cascais. A little hard to see, but very cool.

2 other nonfiction books I read around the same time as WoOS: Behind the Beautiful Forevers, about a very poor community in Mumbai, and Nothing to Envy, about daily life in (+ escapes from) North Korea. All 3 by female newspaper bureau chiefs, all copiously researched, all super compelling reads.

Warmth of Other Suns is amazing, reads like a novel. Caste is important, but it is tough going.

Eh, check out the actual banger in the footnote to the original story. Although it wasn't known at the time of the story, the Coast Guard later said that it actually accelerated the sinking of the boat ''to protect shipping lanes.''
