I'm honoured to be part of the Palestine Days 2025, organized by Transaidency.

Amid violence & erasure, the event provides a space for perspectives that are painfully absent from the German public!

🗓 Oct 28-30

It is not "attribution and sourcing" to generate post-hoc citations that have not been read and did not inform the student's writing. Those should be regarded as fraudulent: artifacts testifying to human actions and thought that did not occur.

For help with attribution and sourcing, Grammarly is releasing a citation finder agent that automatically generates correctly formatted citations backing up claims in a piece of writing, and an expert review agent that provides personalized, topic-specific feedback. Not sure people realize how INSANELY DRAINING data centers will be on our planet.

If you imagine data centers as their own country, they'll rank fourth in global electricity use by 2035 — outranked only by China, India, and the U.S.

Read this in @bloomberg.com👇

AI Data Centers Are Sending Power Bills Soaring
Wholesale electricity costs as much as 267% more than it did five years ago in areas near data centers. That’s being passed on to customers.

A cautionary tale from Australia for governments considering age checks for social media.
cameronwilson.bsky.social
We're now finding out that as many as 70,000 people had their government IDs provided to prove their ages leaked by Discord. Like I wrote last week, this is an inherent risk (and made greater by a rushed process) of getting platforms to do age checks
Discord says 70,000 users may have had their government IDs leaked in breach
The ID pics had been submitted as part of age-related appeals.

This is horrifying.

To give context to ICE's spending spree on weapons & tactical gear, I pulled data on their FY 2023 spending for relevant product categories.

‼️ In the last week, ICE spent well OVER TWICE AS MUCH on weapons, armor, & accessories ($74.6M) as they did in all of FY 2023 ($29.2M).

"How politicians & passengers gave up on greener air travel":

They figured out that there was no "green air travel", but that they still liked flying, so they decided that "greener air travel" could go fuck itself, since the Western standard of living is not negotiable.

WHICH SHIFT AWAY FROM FOSSIL FUELS? WHERE IS IT IN THE DATA?

I can't deal with this shit anymore, I just can't.

The US is pursuing "energy dominance" and forcing allies to buy US oil and gas. And, yet, China is beating the US on energy exports.

This is an EU proposed policy with the benign-sounding name "Child Sexual Abuse Regulation" which proposes to screen private online communications using sketchy image-scanning algorithms. It is technically unworkable, and would be a privacy catastrophe, especially for those in authoritarian states

📣 Germany's close to reversing its opposition to mass surveillance & private message scanning, & backing the Chat Control bill. This could end private comms-& Signal-in the EU.

Time's short and they're counting on obscurity: please let German politicians know how horrifying their reversal would be.

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

I can’t tell you the number of German news media people who’ve asked me this question this year (“why isn’t there more resistance”) … not even 18 months after spewing psychotic fantasies about the violence that they felt ought to be visited on peaceful protesters
jakemgrumbach.bsky.social
Pretty incredible own goal by liberal institutions and many Democratic electeds to crush the exact type of protests in 2024 that would’ve been the most effective way to slow or stop ICE incursions into American cities in 2025

Today, 250.000 people took to the streets of Amsterdam to protest Israel's genocidal violence in Gaza and the cowardly response by the Dutch government. It followed on two earlier protests, one with 150.000 protesters, and the first one with about 100.000. By Dutch standards, these are huge numbers.
