PROSPECT COTTAGE
A coincidence meaning nothing
But still my stomach flutters
As I discover
That my first visit to the cottage that still contains your spirit
Is on the anniversary
Of Maggi declaring at a gathering
"Derek, you've discovered Modern Nature".
And so I spring back into your diary
To your "glaucous greens" And "seedlings thriving"
Fervent kale
Purple sage that grows apace
Then suspended animation
As the icy blasts forbid further sprouting And in your gut
Your groin
Your skin
There is nature living within
Malevolent
Your struck by Prospero storms
Viral earthquakes
Lashed and rash-ish
But still
Despite your darkening eyes
Each dawn
You see the stars washed away by early rain And force celebration upon us
As you paint
And potter with intention
