Independent film producer & rock 'n' roller. Living in Wilmington, NC, but my heart stays in Pittsburgh (with a slice set aside for sweet home Chicago.)
The legend has it that "Beth" was the B-side of Kiss' "Detroit Rock City" single, and it was DJ's who started to play the flip side (back when actual human beings on the radio had that freedom!) "Beth," of all Kiss songs, went on to be their biggest seller ever. #AT40

There are actually a couple of rockers on this one, but, even though I was a long-time fan, between Alice breaking up the original band, opting for a Hollywood-friendly personae, and putting out these schmaltzy singles, I just gave up on him (for a time.) "I Never Cry" Nov. '76 on #AT40

My 1976 college roommate (& dear friend to this day) gave me Electric Light Orchestra's "A New World Record" for Christmas that year. A thoughtful gesture almost 50 years ago still brings a smile to my face! #AT40

The Trump cabal are clinking glasses tonight in The White House, as, after months of their provoking violence across America, the inevitable happened and 2 young WV Guardsmen were shot. Now they have "justification" to ramp up their illegal military occupations. This was always the plan.

Capitol Records, for the millionth time, instead of scraping the barrel to justify an "Anthology 4" money-grab, would you PLEASE get off your corporate asses and release the much-deserved deluxe box set for "Ringo" - the most joyous post-Beatles Beatles album of all time??! #AT40

The Rolling Stones' "Goats Head Soup" had the misfortune to be the album that followed "Exile On Main Street." As such, reviews were mixed. Perhaps because '73 is smack-dab my sweet spot, it's my fave Stones album. "Angie," "Heartbreaker," Silver Train," "Star Star"... just great stuff. #AT40

Hearing Casey mention "Why Me, Lord" starting at #100 on Billboard made me curious about who's at 90-100 on today's November '73 chart. David Essex's "Rock On" rose to 91, while Uriah Heep's "Stealin'" is at 98 - having peaked at 91 😟 #AT40

"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is THE song from fall '73. Eternal thanks to Elton, Bernie, Davey, Dee, Nigel & producer Gus. #AT40

Only one of these albums would have hits on #AT40. But, the fall of 1973 was a treasure trove of killer rock albums. In heavy rotation in the basement of the Wilson house that fall:

Rep. Rouzer, the government shutdown was 100% the fault of REPUBLICANS who were determined to eliminate health care for millions of AMERICAN citizens, not the Democrats who bravely stood up for the good of all Americans. You're going down in '26.

These albums were in heavy rotation in my off-campus apartment at college that fall of '78. The world would soon catch up with Blondie, but, of course, the others were ignored on shows like #AT40.

Up until the last few releases, "Some Girls" would be the album The Rolling Stones seemed determine to replicate with every subsequent release. (That said, give last year's "Hackney Diamonds" a chance. Some REALLY good stuff on that album! #AT40

Because I'm always amazed, I keep posting it: Whodathouht this gang of furry goofballs from 1972 would go on to be consistent MOR hit makers throughout the decade?? Dr. Hook's "Sharing The Night Together" Nov. '78 on #AT40

OK, I rag on Alice's latter 70's ballads. But, 1978's "How You Gonna See Me Now?" is actually sweet & poignant - because it's based on Alice's actual experience at a rehab center. ALSO: lyrics on this album by BERNIE TAUPIN (and that's Elton's Davey Johnstone on guitar!) #AT40

Johnny Rivers wasn't on magazine covers, wasn't selling posters... but just, quietly, kept racking up hit after hit after hit for almost two decades! PROPS, Mr. Rivers. ("Swayin' To The Music" Sept. '77 on #AT40)

Gonna repeat myself, because I'm so protective of the Bond legacy: Marvin Hamlisch wrote a good theme song for "The Spy Who Loved Me," but the rest of the score just made us crave John Barry. (Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better" Sept. '77 on #AT40)

Summer of '77 I'd spent many nights at Chicago's legendary punk club, La Mere Vipere. Hearing the (mostly) crap on this Sept. '77 #AT40 tonight, so glad I bought what records I could to bring back to college (many were still hard-to-find imports.)

Kinda feels like we did this period on #AT40 very recently. Nonetheless, here's Leonard Unger (trying to) rock out on "Surfin' USA" in the fall of '77.

So much good stuff from 1970, but, when I think of that year, there's only one album which comes to mind. Still reeling in despair and disbelief that fall of '70 over the break-up. #AT40

Wow. "The Partridge Family" had only debuted about 6 weeks earlier in that fall of 1970. And, here's "I Think I Love You" already more than halfway up the #AT40 chart!

Queen's "Sheer Heart Attack" is their most high-energy, blow-out-the-speakers, shake-the-rafters album ever. But "Killer Queen" was the song to skip over. #AT40

No one was more surprised than Alice Cooper when "Only Women Bleed" turned into a big hit. Set off a practice of making sure his following albums would each contain a moment of insufferable schmaltz for the next 3 years. Though that worked, business-wise, his original fans were appalled. #AT40

I attended Mellon Jr. High School in suburban Pittsburgh. Though it was named after this guy's grandfather, I'd be totally fine if they changed the name of the school. (Massive Trump backer + gave $$$ to Sec. Brainworm's presidential campaign and his anti-vaccine efforts.)

Look for the real Leather Tuscadero's first 2 albums. As the Rock & Roll HOF searches (half-heartedly) for women to induct, they repeatedly ignore the pioneer that is Suzi Quatro.
