It is a bittersweet day for me. On this day in 1934 my mother Gracie was born. On this day in 2005 my heart dog Rosa died. Then my mother died in 2014. In honor of each of them I created these nichos, channeling my grief into the process.
A mostly yellow painted tin nicho with a flaming red heart at the top. It holds a framed portrait of a german shepherd hanging above a black and tan shepherd magnet. There are long stemmed red roses behind the magnet and the interior background is light blue. Three dog tags hang from the bottom of the nicho and there are tiny fake roses on either side of the heart. A blue painted nicho with rainbow and white dots has a sun at its top, painted in yellow, orange and red, and there are pink flowers and light blue curtains (?) on either side. Inside is a collage--3 photos of a woman, as a child, a young woman, and as an elder. She is surrounded by pictures of things she loved--magazines, travel posters, and books. On the bottom ledge of the nicho are miniatures--4 bottles, 3 with seeds and one her ashes, a folk art water jug, and a pile of cookbooks.

I participate in my local shelter's "Bad Art" fundraiser annually. This is my digital portrait of a cute pup named Maxwell. If you don't get the reference, "Good to the Last Drop" has been Maxwell House Coffee's slogan since 1915🙂

I love watching them play together ❤️
Two German shepherds play together. They are both on their hind legs and each has one front leg extended toward the other. One is black and tan and the other is a bicolor. They are playing on patchy grass and there is a tree, fence, and part of a yellow shed in the background.
