This morning I drove to work not thinking about how teachers will address student concerns about the violence in Israel and Gaza. But rather I was thinking about what kind of support teachers were receiving to help them prepare for addressing their students concerns. #EduSky

With all the pain and tragedy in the world at this very moment, I have no idea why it’s this story that is haunting me.
The "lung float" test — which dates to the 17th Century, back when witch trials were still a thing — is being used to this day, to imprison women for murder.

Experts call it "completely discredited" and an "outrageous breach of science.”

Is the source condemning or celebrating violence? Advocating for victims, or justifying atrocities with proof of the other side’s cruelty? Violence is the most powerful propaganda and researchers are not immune to its effects. Once seen those images will never leave you. Choose your costs carefully.

So much “OSINT” content during breaking stories is little more than torture porn. It doesn’t inform or memorialize. You don’t need to watch a murder to know that murder is wrong, and you don’t have to witness every atrocity in order to grieve. Consider the dignity of the victims and survivors.

Reminder: you are not obligated to watch, hear, or read every piece of content related to breaking news, especially when that content is graphic. Ask yourself: is this data point worth the additional trauma? Is this necessary for archival, analysis, or advocacy?

Junk science at its absolute worst.
A Lab Test That Experts Liken to a Witch Trial Is Helping Send Women to Prison for Murder
The “lung float” test claims to help determine if a baby was born alive or dead, but many medical examiners say it’s too unreliable. Yet it is still being used to bring murder charges — and get convictions.

Great discussion about the post Twitter social world for academia today on the Future Trends Forum. @karencosta.bsky.social @thomasjtobin.bsky.social and Lee Skallerup Bassette were brilliant.
