Is the source condemning or celebrating violence? Advocating for victims, or justifying atrocities with proof of the other side’s cruelty? Violence is the most powerful propaganda and researchers are not immune to its effects. Once seen those images will never leave you. Choose your costs carefully.

So much “OSINT” content during breaking stories is little more than torture porn. It doesn’t inform or memorialize. You don’t need to watch a murder to know that murder is wrong, and you don’t have to witness every atrocity in order to grieve. Consider the dignity of the victims and survivors.
