It had me excited when I thought we were getting a sequel to F.I.S.T.

The correct class! My OG (low level) Black Marsh hunter from back in 2011.

I was 19 in college when Skyrim came out, and yet only actually finished the game last year, having played chunks of it several times over the years.

Hear that? Those are the sounds of my bones turning to dust. 😅

I will never not be confused by Bananza's inclusion on these lists.

We had a Sega MegaDrive and a Super Nintendo when I was real young. My first console that was exclusively mine though was a Game Boy Pocket. A couple years ago I bought a boxed Game Boy Pocket and now it sits on my shelf with my OG handheld in front that still works (top left cube).

At $300-$500 they'll hit a console-like sweet spot. At or under $400 and I preorder it immediately.

Yeah for sure, I look forward to more coverage. I'm very interested in this but only if priced right. I have a PC which will outplay this, already have a Steam Deck, and have the PS5 and the Series X. So technically I don't *need* this. Which means the price has to make sense as a living room PC.
November 13, 2025 at 2:25 PM
Hands on it the sense a bunch of outlets were allowed to play it and hold it, see the 'insides' but only the case removed not the actual motherboard, and get a components list with some specs but not specific items.

Interesting. Do you think Sony will bunker down and reverse here, going back to their old mentality?

I will give Xbox some credit, their "We want you to play your Xbox games anywhere" statement was noble. It only works though if everyone agrees. Otherwise you're just making your hardware redundant.

Semi-custom can mean as little as an off the shelf product with some settings tweaked. Don't read too much into that as a buzzword.

The DF podcast I watched discussing it said that calling it a 4K60 machine, even with the 'with FSR' may be very generous and a marketing mistake, especially in light of what happened when Xbox called the Xbox One X a 4K60 machine. So impressive but not magical.

They've also told media explicitly that the choice of an 8GB VRAM GPU was for cost reasons. I don't think this is going to be marketed as a premium system. The specs suggest this is an 'underpowered' machine. Games like Indiana Jones already struggle on 8GB VRAM.
November 13, 2025 at 1:04 PM
This is where it comes down to pricing. If it's priced at $500 or less you're going to get a market of people willing to pay for a living room PC on a budget. That'll give you the 'console experience' without being locked to a specific console ecosystem, and with access to your PC games.
November 13, 2025 at 12:38 PM
Yeah, $499 for the 500GB model and more for the 2TB one won't get me in, at least not at launch. A 500GB SSD is also just not enough in 2025 for someone who installs like I do.
November 13, 2025 at 8:34 AM
Surely you don't put an 8GB VRAM GPU in a machine for 'affordability reasons' (a quote from Valve per the Digital Foundry podcast) and then release it for $600+.

Charging more than a PS5 for a machine that's not got the internals to match it sets them up for failure like the last time they did this

Black and purple (or even black and pink) would look dope.
November 12, 2025 at 11:35 PM
If the Steam Machine is >$400, it becomes a concern. The Steam Frame has a lot of potential though, that excites me a lot.

Ooh ok, sounds good. I would recommend if possible trying to watch along with Campaign 4, as it'll keep you involved with the community, and it's a brand new world so no assumed knowledge. The start of Vox Machina is a little plagued with tech and quality issues, plus it's mid plot-line in episode 1

How are you starting? Are you jumping in Campaign 4?
