Scotland was a multi-lingual, multi-national society from the beginning. When David I founded the Royal Burghs he addressed the people there as "Scottis et Anglis, Frankis et Flemmingis" – the Scots, English, French & Flemish who made up his Community of the Realm of Scotland.

Thank you for being #partofthebiggerpicture 🧩

YOU have raised an incredible £19,102 to help refugees to rebuild their lives here in Scotland.

At a time of increased hostility, your compassion & generosity shows that a more welcoming and inclusive Scotland is possible.

Thank you all! 🧡

The Scottish government should lead the battle against extremism … because the Tories and Labour certainly ain’t gonna do it

The SNP must tool up for a dirty fight to the death with the far right
The SNP has two choices: accept its part in the rise of the far-right, or grow a spine and take the fight to extremists.

The government wants to force yet more people to save in stock market-based pensions that are bound to fail because changing demographics guarantee that will happen. It's time to rethink the whole nature of pensions instead. www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/07...
A pensions policy built on a Ponzi scheme cannot deliver security in retirement
The government announced on Monday the revival of the so-called (in its words) “landmark” Pensions Commission. It stated that this is required to address the fact, as things stand (in their estimate),...

Lucky for Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland that they aren’t in a union with England like Scotland otherwise they couldn’t have passed their own gender self-ID laws

In 2016 ScotGov prepared a much-respected 'Scotland's Place in Europe' doc, proposing a solution for Scotland remaining in the EU whilst rUk left. Westminster dismissed it immediately. Now that both NI & Gibraltar have special EU deals that proposal *must* be revisited. www.gov.scot/publications...

An absolutely deserved choice. I can only encourage everyone to read Mosab Abu Toha's reflections on the early phase of the #Gaza war, facing unspeakable destruction, reflecting a deep sense of loss, and portraying the daily sufferings of ordinary Palestinians.

I'm a fan of @theatlantic.com but this piece on Britain's economy is drivel. Any attempt to unravel UK economic dysfunction without mentioning Brexit or the mass sale of council housing while deeming Thatcher's privatisation wholly positive is absurd. Keep to American issues you're useless on the UK
