Non-sequitur Sunday: More William Spratling, this time a coffee set called “Ovalado”. This was my Moby Dick for years. It just never came up for sale or auction. There’s also a slightly smaller teapot. I think I remember hearing that there is a set in the LA museum of modern art.

It’s a real issue. On one hand, it seems frivolous to talk about soaking beans or not while these events are going on, but for some of us, it seems as if our only defense is to cook. It’s our little corner of the world that we can control and make better. If it helps others, that’s a win. ❤️

Aguachile is a Mexican dish usually made with raw seafood in a spicy marinade. We tried a version with our Garbanzos and dang, it works! It's bright and bold and somewhat addictive, especially when scooped up with thick tortilla chips.

If my friends could read this, they would laugh. I indulge quite a bit, if you know what I mean and I think you do.

I don’t think there should be any budget for books or music. You should get what you want. It’ll pay off in the end.

More Breakfasts of Champions: Puglia lentils with a searingly hot chipotle tomato salsa and some leftover rotisserie chicken. Is that a dab (plop) of Bellweather Farms crème fraîche? Why, it certainly is and it was certainly delicious.

I feel validated!
It was one of the first beans we grew and it’s actually an easier 🫘 to grow and harvest so I tended not to be as an enamored with it but it’s so consistent and so delicious and you’re right, all of a sudden you realize all these things and it’s true love.
