Oh, cool, looks like I've been starter packed by a few folks. New followers: I'm based in Boston, MA, USA. When the world isn't actively collapsing (or, rather, when I take time off from paying attention to the collapse), I'm a Master Brewer and a cooking/restaurant nerd.

(not counting people who personally know him, I'm probably one of the top 500, certainly 1000 Weird Al trivia knowers. And yes, we're all neurodivergent, though that is probably true for most possible areas of knowledge. It hurts if I stop learning new things about something/one I'm interested in.)

Al was a child prodigy and skilled artist who started Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at 16 and got an architecture degree. The Dr. first played an Al song on air when Al was a high school Sr, and had Al in studio for "Another One Rides The Bus" as a college Sr, which was the recording on his 1st album.

I saw The Who from the Pesky Pole at Fenway for $20 a month or so ago. They were better than I've ever seen them play (first in 2002). Joe Perry Project (with Chris Robinson and Robert DeLeo) opened.

The weather was perfect, too. It wasn't boomers dumping tickets, not wanting to get wet or roast.

I just bought $23(!!!) tickets on Stubhub for Paul McCartney in Minneapolis next week.

I've seen him 5 times and never paid under $100.

I wouldn't sleep on those 🎟 if you're interested. I sent a mass email to all my music students parents letting them know those are available.

I owe at least half my personality to Dr. Demento and the artists he played and inspired. Alfred Mathew Yankovic would probably be an architect designing strip malls. Instead, he's "Weird Al."

Master Brewer and Bostonian herem I've had both; they have historic value but not favs of mine. If you like the deep amber beer style usually Octoberfest (with a C) in the US, Sam basically invented it (it's a take on a style not served at Oktoberfest in decades), and it still defines the style.

Back at ya. Been a fan of your work since I realized all the great right to repair articles I found were all written by the same guy

I'll get the paper through the library tomorrow to see what conclusions if any the actual authors draw, but I absolutely believe the finding is possible, though may not be meaningful. Lots of good discussion here (including fact that 45% of 18-30 year olds in the US have smoked in the last 12 mos):

Read the whole thread about this awful, evil case. And consider adding @404media.co to your independent media subscriptions. Jason and his team have been breaking major tech oligarchy and government surveillance stories since they started. If you find Wired valuable, you will feel the same about 404

The notion that Bari will be "running CBS News" is slightly misleading. What the reporting suggests is that Tom Cibrowski, a guy with normal qualifications, will be doing that. Bari will be Emperor Ellison's Vader-esque enforcer, outside the chain of command, intervening at will.

I woke up one day in brewing school, having chosen to spend $$$ for an elite brewing education, feeling I made a smart mid-career shift knowing I was going to get personal brewery tours by two heroes that day. Then I saw how anxious they were about their growing inventories, and, well… *sigh*

I was also blown away by all the writing on the wall in '23. I couldn't understand how the biggest beer festival in Belgium was surviving given how much time we had to talk to brewers. Well, it wasn't; that might have been the last ever Zythos. Pierre Tilquin & Frank Boon were both very anxious!

Even Trappist beer is in trouble. They still sell out their purposefully limited bottlings, but there's a dark running joke that the average age of a Trappist monk is dead, as they likely publicly overstate their numbers. They don't have succession plans for the breweries when they're gone.

With so many outlets now owned by oligarchs, people on bsky don't realize how uninformed the normies (including people who already hate Trump) on FB are right now. A thing we can do is share these stories in ways that get around algorithms and provide credible sourcing to uncaptured journalism.

The Belgian beer scene blew me away. they celebrate tradition while being completely unafraid to try new things. At the Zythos festival, the Duvel brewers were ecstatic to get feedback from American brewers on their dry hopped stuff. I spent half an hour talking about oyster stouts w/ one brewery.

BLOG POST: "...we recognise the problem in tourists demanding that the places they visit stay exactly the same, while expecting bars at home to do the opposite... But Belgium really does feel different, for a few reasons..." 🍺🍻

We don’t want Belgian beer to change – and that’s our problem
On a recent trip to Liège we ended up visiting a couple of more modern bars which, although very pleasant, didn’t give us what we want from Belgian beer.
