Progressive Populist. Elected officials must vote the way the majority of their constituents would vote, but can lead their constituency toward a more tolerant and inclusive viewpoint by helping them win and building trust. Member of NCDP SEC.
The infamous 1898 coup in NC is now being joined by a new coup in 2024-2025. Democracy is being overthrown in NC by election deniers.

So, here's a brainstorm starter. In what ways could the Democratic Party make swing voters feel, truthfully, that they are in control of their government?

and would only get credit for employing people at a good salary and have a smaller share of that pie.

would be targeted for voter approved rewards. Companies that improved income inequality, benefitted the environment and priced fairly could get bigger tax benefits, as long as approved by a voter referendum. Tobacco, Casinos and Big Oil would likely not be seen as benefitting the people as a whole

If a megacorporation got a taxpayer funded plant or stadium built without paying salaries that benefitted Income Inequality, in the end they would be taking that money away from other superrich people not the working class. In addition, a portion of the additional taxes on the superrich

The majority of Americans would be way, way better off financially. More people having more to spend would drive the economy into best ever regions. Since then I've refined my proposal a bit. Tax rates on those making more than 10 million a year would be indexed to the Income Inequality measure.

than are worse than the USA when we measure Income Inequality. My resolution said that we should do what is needed to get the USA to the 50th percentile. You could consider that a mediocre target, but if actually accomplished it would be earth-shaking for us.

It says that we should measure income inequality and publicize the results. It notes that previous, but too infrequent measurements by the World Bank and CIA indicated that we are at the 33th percentile among countries in Income Equality. Twice as many countries are better than the USA

When they face less danger of financial ruin and oppression, they will be more receptive to kinder treatment of immigrants and people of different viewpoints and lifestyles. If the people aren't ready to accept refugees from other countries, find out why and address root cause.

We should be polling, polling, polling and not making stands without the backing of our voters. Articulate our viewpoint, but recognize that we aren't the boss, and that we must lead the people toward more enlightened viewpoints by delivering change that has their support.

Technology now exists to make democracy even more democratic, and that's where we should be going. The public needs to be able to fire those who act against their interests, and government shutdowns would be way, way less common if voters could instantly recall rogue public servants.

I am a progressive populist. I personally support pretty much everything that Bernie and AOC put forward, but I believe that a congressperson should never make a vote that isn't the vote their constituents would have made.

I started participating in the Democratic Party because I wanted to make it better. The party remains my party because it reflects my values by far the better of the two. But losing two elections to 45 shows that it still needs to get a lot better.
