Delighted to have seen his genius composition Nuclear War performed by the group he created, at the latest Big Ears festival in Knoxville. Saw him and the Arkestra three times while he was still on Earth.

Agreed. If you need to suppress free speech in order to defeat an autocrat, you are deficient in democracy.

The recent 60 Minutes piece on post hurricane insurance underpayments indicates that this situation is a whole lot worse than that. Corporations that are unwilling to do a job need to no longer have that job.

Yes, it does beat Kurdistan. But not by much.

Hell No!!! Call them by their right name. The democratic party needs a populist leader. Read www.amazon.com/gp/product/1... and stop calling criminals populists.

In a democracy the majority should rule. To the extent that this does not happen, the regime is less than a democracy.

We have never had a full democracy. It is necessary to make one.

The optics of the situation are this: if you propose transformational change, a serial liar can call the proposer stupid and evil. To oppose a binding referendum on transformational change, the serial liar must call you, the voter, stupid and evil. Which makes the liar look --- stupid and evil.

Many thanks to Aileen, but brainstorms require replies more than likes. I think we should focus on binding referendums in for two or three keystone platform items. My top two choices are Income Inequality and Codify Roe. Medicare for All and ERA are close behind.

So, here's a brainstorm starter. In what ways could the Democratic Party make swing voters feel, truthfully, that they are in control of their government?

Ionic? Iconic?

Please give us a way to monitor wealth and income inequality in real time and against other countries! This is a road map for the next democratic wave and we need to be able to see and show where the roads are. Please!
December 10, 2024 at 6:18 PM
The only road that goes through is an even higher road. Actual 100% Democracy. Every single vote taken by a congressman must have 50.01% approval of constituents. Democrats must be seen as a vastly improved product.

I don't like links that require you to click another link to see what they are talking about. It's unsafe. Perhaps you might disclose the info hidden in the second link.

Technology now exists to make democracy even more democratic, and that's where we should be going. The public needs to be able to fire those who act against their interests, and government shutdowns would be way, way less common if voters could instantly recall rogue public servants. (Repost)

Don't impose Medicare for all, taxing the rich, and open borders, but conduct a referendum for each and continue promoting progressive ideals while recognizing that true democracy means some of them will take longer to achieve voter consensus than others
