It's raining in the desert. Hard. Our 3rd day of it. Our local TV #weather prognosticator reported on Tuesday it would be a one-day drizzle at most. Last night as it poured this person's report was broadcast live from a local casino's NYE party - basically just shilling for the place. Not helpful.

This is NGC 2264, also called the "Christmas Tree Cluster." It's a cluster of young stars about 2,500 light years away.

They were 'born' during the Pliocene Epoch (2-5 MYA), about the same time as early hominids like Ardipithecus or Homo habilis, so they're barely older than humanity.

Thinking of my mom this Christmas Eve day. She passed in May, a week before her 91st birthday. She loved her chickens. She would have enjoyed this article in the current #WorldofInteriors magazine, on innovative henhouses. Titled "Coops de Théâtre".

A white painted South Africa-inspired Cape Dutch style henhouse, complete with interior chandelier and white nest boxes with arched openings, echoing its overall shape. The front door is open. A donkey and some chickens appear outside in the foreground. A lavender-pink painted classical Greek temple henhouse with inspired D.I.Y. touches, including golf clubs, hubcaps train sets and figurines nestled into a budding garden in South Carolina. Sounds weird but the result is rather enchanting. A circa 1970s white French police car (with red and blue stripes) modified as a chicken coop. The open trunk, doors and rear hatch show build-outs with expanded flooring and chickens peering out.
