This illustrated visual compendium takes you behind the scenes of the films that have reshaped the horror genre, from THE EXORCIST to the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY and HALLOWEEN franchises.

The hand print on the cover and finger prints throughout are meant to be like you’re the murderer using this book as a guide for your next kill, so I placed the prints as if you were actually flipping through.

To unify all of the properties into one deluxe book, I was inspired to design it as a sort of bound film script / director’s notebook that’s very worn and passed around to reference all of the collaboration involved in filmmaking while also being a sort of guidebook with secrets inside.

Spooky season has officially begun! 👻 🎃 As a huge fan of horror films, I was especially thrilled to be hired by @simonelement.bsky.social to design “HORROR’S NEW WAVE: 15 Years of BLUMHOUSE” by @blumhouse.com with @daveschilling.bsky.social and an introduction from CEO and founder Jason Blum.

The original typography is a bonkers puzzle (complimentary) and, as you can see in my references, it’s typically blown out or filled-in so I’m thrilled to get a new version out there that could be the size of a billboard.

I had hoped to do this for the ESSENTIAL FELLINI box set I designed in 2020 but there just wasn’t enough time!

I was so happy to be asked by art director Eric Skillman at Criterion Collection to redraw the original title typography in vector to be used in a new poster to promote the tour.

Don’t miss seeing Federico Fellini’s timeless opus 8½ in a brand new 35mm print struck from the original camera negative in Italy—completely photochemical and all analogue—at Film Forum in NYC Friday, April 25–Thursday, May 8 courtesy of Janus Films!

Something fun I’ve been designing for Blumhouse / Simon & Schuster that hits shelves in September! 👀

Fun Fact! ✨ 50 Oscar statuette prop replicas were created w/ special permission from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for Judy Garland’s “A Star is Born” in 1954. They were not permitted to be stored in the prop shop and were immediately destroyed after filming the iconic awards scene.

Rediscovering Cher’s Living Proof album has been essential to my productivity this year. It still sounds so futuristic!

Florrie’s “Kissing in the Cold” is a dreamy synth delight with a middle eight which is fab. Remember those? 😂

Just found this other alternate cover I liked, too! I really wanted the car in there somewhere… I had hoped to print this in a single metallic Pantone to mimic a silver gelatin print. ✨

I now have the vintage cigar box to hold all of the detritus from the making of this package design which is a lovely takeaway from the project. 😊 #physicalmedia

Early in the design process, I printed and mocked up a dummy version and made a video of it to share with Eric to show how I thought things could relate to each other. If you look closely, yes, there was an early version where I designed the whole newspaper clipping, haha.

This is an alternate cover idea with gold bible typography that I really liked and thought said a lot about the relationship between the characters.

This is an alternate version of the sheet music cover that I thought would be nice and not repeat that classic moon image again.

Another removable item idea (that didn’t make it in) was a business card for the Kansas Bible Company where I included a few touches to add to the story so it’s like “Moze” is looking at the back to remember the widow’s names when he holds it up to them.

When you remove both discs, the bottom of Addie’s cigar box is revealed and I wanted there to be even more little treats to discover. The photo of Addie with her mother wasn’t in Paramount’s image archive so I took a hi-res screenshot and hid the part obscured by her thumb with a cigarette burn.

I wanted the discs to add to the layering effect and sneak in as many little things that I could, including: her $20 bill, the cover of Famous Funnies (that she’s reading at the barber shop), a bottle of Evening in Paris cologne, matches, and a newspaper clipping of funeral notices.

As a special removable item, we thought including the photo Addie leaves for “Moze” as a loose object inside the box could be a fun surprise.
