REEL formed when three refugees from The Psychedelic Duelling Wars congealed in the psychic wreckage of a Somerset studio to record Wild Garlick electronics, eschatological ambience & brown acid techno on adapted bits of farm machinery & petrol cans
Yeah, I told myself that. It was all about education not joy. 🤣

It also contains the 3rd and 4th track I ever played on radio - A lunchtime show on University radio which was spectacularly unpopular & possibly put people off their food

The finest adult lullabies money can buy.

BTW Dolly’s Love Is Like a Butterfly is a psychedelic classic - yeah, yeah Kristy Kosmische etc etc; Love Is Like a Butterfly is 1974 in its purest form. Dolly knew what was going on. Wendy Craig, less so.

Same. With some of them I have no memory of even buying them (whereas I can perfectly remember where I bought my favourite records). I guess a lot of vinyl was just very cheap

God, yes. My third tier record collection (in the loft) is full of mostly awful shite from the 80s & 90s

Haha, I’ve said that exact thing explaining my Warp records (and Coil, and Spacemen 3 etc etc). Being old was useful back then.

Awesome. I loved St Vincent’s version. I think she did some other BB covers as well

I’m sure Albini et al would have loved soundtracking cookery. Set me on fire!

Saw this because of this post & it was really amazing - these sort of movies always lose their plot but this one felt extraordinarily well-judged. I’m assuming it was probably a disaster at the box office.

Cheers, man. Really appreciate that. The gnarly wildness is just because we let the bull do the mixdown. We were actually attempting a Fred Again, Charlotte de Witte vibe but we don’t have a clue what we’re doing…

Yeah, true. I think Hopper’s performance ‘introducing’ him would make any version of Kurtz underwhelming but I agree Brando sucks the life out of it a bit… they should have had Hopper play Kurtz as well in a different coloured wig (and have no one comment that they looked the same)

And yet if he WAS playing Mistah ‘He dead’ Kurtz as a pompous English lecturer with seasonally affective disorder then it would add a certain post-colonial splendour, no?

Well, I only know about this because he got asked to sell one on discogs or something
January 20, 2026 at 8:22 PM
He probably has but he’s been involved in so many of these things I think he mostly can’t be arsed. There’s so much Hacker Farm material unreleased… silly bugger just likes making stuff! We’ve probably got 3 albums worth of REEL studio recordings that we’ll never get around to…

Love her translations. Struggled through various versions of The Odyssey before this one. And now listening to The Iliad audiobook.
