Kyouran Makaism Details Base Facilities, Systems
Nippon Ichi Software released new screenshots and details for its upcoming action RPG Kyouran Makaism. The update covers some of the facilities and features players can make use of in the same, many of which share similarities to those of the Disgaea series.
Kyouran Makaism follows veteran mercenary N.A., who is summoned by the Superlative Netherworld overlord Tisiel. She tasks N.A. with finding the thief who stole the First Radiance Pudding, which was created by Tisiel’s deceased father. The game sees N.A. use seven different weapon types — fists, swords, spears, axes, bows, guns, and staffs — each with their own attack ranges and actions against groups of enemies. Each weapon also has four different special techniques to utilise against foes. The game features a level cap of 9,999, but also includes elements like Reincarnation that returns a character to level 1 while maintaining various bonuses and attribute gains.
The Overlord’s Castle serves the game's primary hub. Facilities and features are unlocked over the course of the game, including the Chara World, Item World, and Debate Assembly. The Chara World sees Tisiel and her familiars advance through sugoroku (board game)-style dungeons within N.A.; different events take place on each square in the dungeon, and can lead to increases in N.A.'s stats or enforced battles. Meanwhile, the Item World allows players to upgrade N.A.'s gear. Players take on enemies within each item, and by defeating them can increase the item’s level and acquire “Item Points” to further strengthen them as the players chooses. Players can also find inhabitants called Innocents within Item Worlds, which also boost item stats.
During the game, players can form contracts with captured monsters, allowing them to fight alongside the player. The Breeder allows players to form new contracts, as well as "extract" monsters for mana instead. In addition, players will gain the ability to use Magichange and Reincarnation strengthening options on monsters. Elsewhere, the Debate Assembly lets players propose and enact various requests, such as increasing experience points received or allowing them to carry more items. Doing so requires they win a debate against opposing monsters, though players give swing things in their favour through bribes and other methods. Finally, the Cheat Shop lets players modify various parameters in the game, such as enemy’s strength and reward ratios.
Kyouran Makaism is currently planned to release in Japan on January 29, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. A western release has not yet been announced.
