I asked a DoorDash spokesperson today if the company had concluded from its report that inflation had been tamed. DoorDash spokesperson told me, "We did not write that."

$230 for a cell phone holster?

So I saw this, about Apple's new limited-edition designer cell phone holster: Is it a bag? Is it a sock? No, it's a $230 phone accessory ...and my first thought was: is $230 higher or lower than the median price of all the phones I've ever owned? On reflection, it's…

No, it's a $230 phone accessory ...and my first thought was: is $230 higher or lower than the median price of all the phones I've ever owned? On reflection, it's probably higher; I've had a few flagship phones lately, but for a lot of years I went for budget phones that had my (then lower) minimum desired specs; most of them were reassuringly rugged, too.

Trump has threatened to bomb or invade 7 countries with a shot to play in the 2026 World Cup. He *has* bombed one (Iran) and said he'd deny them visas. He's preparing for war with another (Venezuela). He has summarily executed citizens from at least 3. He has imposed tariffs on nearly all of them.

Frequent readers might have gotten the idea over the years that I scorn the institution of voting, that I don't think much of "my" city council when I can be bothered paying attention to it at all, and (though it hasn't come up much lately) I'm no fonder of progressive technocracy than of any other flavor of tyranny. So it might come as a surprise that I got a little smile out of this article:

When there is no ballistic evidence, no damage from gunfire, no injuries, & DHS isn’t providing video evidence of the claim from their agents that someone fired shots, then I am going to call bullshit based on the 2 months of fabricated stories by federal officials that have been debunked by videos.
This is the most comprehensive reporting released on the DHS-alleged shooting so far. Read the entire story (reminder: reporters don't usually choose headlines).

For folks asking if it's true an ICE agent was shot: no, that is a verifiably false rumor. No injuries. A lot else remains in question.

I was recently informed by a random YouTube recommendation about The Secret of Weepstone, which bills itself as a "hand-drawn black and white dungeon crawler RPG inspired by classic D&D of the 80’s." That's what it is, and at least in the demo, that's all it is. It's nostalgia bait. But I didn't mind. You know how some fantasy games will zoom in to an old book or a hand-drawn map while introducing you to their story?

Did the guy with the nuclear “football” follow him on his wanderings? Because, just a reminder, this unhinged and now rapidly declining old man is never very far from a tool he could use to literally end civilization.
It's another example of the president’s ongoing cognitive decline caught on video. Trump appeared to forget where he was going and left the Japanese Prime Minister behind as she watched him, clearly confused. trib.al/WPTM9IP

This wasn't always the case (Reagan beat Mondale 58-41), but the modern-day presidential election result is expected to be something like 52-48. And while one of the parties will sometimes have "control" of multiple branches of the fedgov, it tends to be by a similarly narrow margin lately; the last time the Senate saw something like a 60-40 split…
