Actually, very believable. The Catholic church has gotten away with their pedo crimes for centuries. Conspiracy and coverups are the norm in all halls of power.

A "cost of service" study will quickly answer the question. As long as the power being sold to AI sites has the same profit margin as all other sales (e.g., to residential customers), there's no issue. It the rates are unfair, it's up to the local power company's regulators to fix that.
