Absolutely.
Given that the fiscal rules that Reeves and Starmer seem hell-bent on setting policy against have no basis in law, and are set by the Chancellor as they see fit, I'm left with the strong sense that, for Labour, conveying financial responsibility is more important than improving lives.

A national economy does not work like a household credit card.
In fact: the more the government is in "debt", that's the more money we have potentially flowing around our economy & improving our living standards.
A self imposed rule to "balance the books" is dangerous nonsense.

Let me be clearer then.
I don't think Labour ministers are necessarily motivated by malice and cruelty.
I'm certain they're motivated by wealth and status which means malice and cruelty is just the price to pay.
Imagine seeing what's happening today and thinking that they deserve a polite break?

I think this is a bad way for a politicians to talk about their opponents. It implies ministers are motivated purely by love of the rich, malice and cruelty. It's possible to argue their choices are wrong and unduly harsh without going OTT like this. We need a better political culture.
