The only reason I'm reading it so early is because it fits a reading prompt for a challenge so I somehow fit it into my tbr, so I get it lol. Was you first book from them the Of Shadows, Stars and Sabers anthology?

So good I ran to buy the entire series after reading book 1! How is the rest of the series comparing to this one?

Got this slated to read in December, sounds pretty cool and judging by my forays into Eugen Bacon's previous work, it's going to be great

I really hate doing this, but when I had my breakdown last month, I took two weeks off from work, and they didn't pay me for my time off, and I am broke.

If you find it in your heart to tip even the minimum amount then I would be enternally grateful

Continuing my journey of buying a book in the/one of official language/s of every country I've visited (and super regretful I neglected to do so when in Dubai and Bali and may never have the chance again).

BUT! This one caught my eye at the bookstore. Anyone heard of it?
Cover for Bruno Puelles' Los Secretos del Hotel Jardìn de Odette. It shows 5 people, each very different from one another, standing in a hotel lobby that's richly decorated and built.

A ghostly Chinese woman with dead white eyes stares out from a stylised black and green ocean, her face surrounded by billowing gold foam THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW NOVEL FROM THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE BOOK EATERS

A haunting dark urban fantasy set in a historical Hong Kong, where ancient myths and local legends combine in a story of ghosts, grief and women who will not forgive.

Mercy Chan is a triad exorcist with a mysterious past. After washing up on the shores of Hong Kong with no memory during World War II, she found a home in Kowloon Walled City, an infamous, ghost-infested slum full of lost and traumatised civilians. Since the war ended, Mercy has rebuilt her life and found work as a ghost-talker for the local triad, dealing with the angry and bitter spirits who haunt this place.

But the past she can’t remember won’t let her go. An unusually powerful ghost lurks in Kowloon’s waterways, drowning innocents and threatening the district. Unnervingly, it claims to know Mercy—and her forgotten childhood.

As Mercy is drawn into a deadly cat-and-mouse game with this malignant spirit, she begins to realise that the monster she fights within these walls may well be one of her own making.

No but Michael McClung crafting fantasy excellence in less than 200 pages is so impressive to me. Folks, Amra Thetys is so good

That's super cool, where do you get them btw?

Do you laminate all your books or just these British Library? I love seeing them as they look so treasured ahah

Morning Womble! Hope you're good! I'm reading The Door on the Sea by Caskey Russell, which is an epic fantasy inspired by Tlingit culture and myth. The lore is fantastic and the narrative style renders the "epic" in epic fantasy beautifully
A kindle displaying a cover for Caskey Russell's The Door on the Sea. It features Tlingit imagery, with a crow, an eagle, fish, and the colorful and beautiful crafts of this indigenous culture. The inagery brings to mind carved totem.

Lol, I can relate to that! I think it can lead to some pretty interesting discussions but are we, in general, open to have them or is it more like a "battle of perspectives", you think?
readingrogue.bsky.social
Was it not the time/place for you to discuss it with them or is there never a time/place and readers should just take what they take from an author's work?
readingrogue.bsky.social
I'm curious, do you think there's an openness online to have similar discussions between author-reader or it was just smooth because it was a friend? I think these "chats" would be pretty interesting

Excellent news! I didn't know of Green City Wars yet!
