Ryan Murphy should never have strayed out of goofy, campy, salacious melodrama. That narrative aesthetic can make for good, fun fiction. In true crime, it’s just sensationalism and glorification. The heart and quality of Pose demonstrates he need collaborators with the sensitivities he lacks.

Apparently Ryan Murphy has somehow incorporated "autogynephilia" into his stupid exploitative Ed Gein series and also weirdly seems to not know that Christine Jorgensen was a real person. Because that's where we're at now. Oh joy.

V/H/S/HALLOWEEN is, admittedly, less grounded than most of the other entries, but I don't entirely mind because the silly stuff kinda just works on its own logic, and the segments are pretty tonally even in themselves. Well, I say less grounded, but one of the segments definitely is ("Kidprint").

I liked the new V/H/S overall noticeably more than last year's one. "Home Haunt" is very good stuff. Not everything works, but there's stuff which is definitely a lot of good seasonal fun.

V/H/S/HALLOWEEN's end credits play over a song which, I kid you not, is about a man being tormented by Grimace (the purple McDonalds guy) appearing in his room and smoking weed. I have no clue why this is but it's an incredibly funny choice.
