In New York, the standard for first degree murder is very high and quite narrow. In this instance, Manhattan DA Bragg tried to argue that Mangione committed an act of terrorism, one of the reasons to charge murder in the first degree. Lesser (more typical) murder charge stands

I hate the phrase "cashless bail." NY eliminated bail for many offenses, including most misdemeanors, but it can still be used for a variety of serious or repeat offenses. And pre-trial release with conditions isn't bail. But Trump's EO isn't about nuance www.cityandstateny.com/policy/2025/...
