I wish we could know for sure that cats understand how much we love them. Even when they’re upset, I wish we could just give them all the love to help them feel better.

UPDATE thread:
This is likely the kind of shadow docket decision coming for NIH, HHS, and other agencies next week.

Get ready, US scientists.

Let's focus public attention on the Supreme Court now, so John Roberts worries about the backlash if he votes to allow the DOGE firings.

🧪 1/3
Today's shadow docket decision allowing DOGE immediate access to individual Social Security data is a flaming turd substantively and procedurally. Justice Jackson, dissenting, joined by Justice Sotomayor; Justice Kagan also would've denied the stay. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

"I think people should know that research that they probably would support is being canceled," said Eden Tanner, who lost a grant to work on a new glioblastoma treatment. "I would like to cure brain cancer. I think that's not particularly controversial."

Some cuts have been starkly visible, but the country’s medical grant-making machinery has also radically transformed outside the public eye.

Think Medicaid cuts won’t affect you because you don’t need it? That assumption is wrong. Medicaid payments are incredibly important for hospital and outpatient clinic revenue. Medicaid cuts mean hospitals and clinics will have to cut staff. Many will close. That affects access to care for ALL OF US
Why did Congressional Republicans jam through an unpopular budget with the largest Medicaid cuts in history?

It could be because nearly 70% of them would financially benefit from the bill's extension of Trump's tax cuts for the rich.

The best treatment for measles is prevention.

That means vaccination, plain and simple.

It’s safe. It works. It saves lives.

Measles can be deadly, and there’s no cure once contracted.

Read this entire thread. I have nothing to add. Absolute perfection. You should absolutely be concerns about comms workers getting axed from HHS.
The comms workers who were laid off also include the people who did the following, extremely non-exhaustive list of things:

- publicized food and drug recalls
- communicated with hospitals to make sure they knew/were looking out for the symptoms of poisoning from a specific contaminant... 4/x

An important point getting overlooked:

When NIH cancels "diversity" grants (e.g., diversity supplements, Fs, Ks, etc), they aren't canceling the grants based on *what* the grant studies.

They're cancelling them based on *who* is doing the research. And that disallowed "who" is anyone not white.
