Facts & strategy, in an authoritarian takeover.
Rightwing billionaires want to privatize NIH and use it to control universities.

An inquiring student leads researchers to discover they've unknowingly held on to the world's oldest ribbon worm. This is the Story of B:

Meet ‘Baseodiscus the Eldest,’ a record-setting worm more than 27 years old
Ribbon worms can grow to enormous lengths, and one named Baseodiscus the Eldest is showing how little we know about them—including how long they live

I understand it's hard for some to use the term concentration camp, even for those horrified by what's happening. And there are settings (e.g., court) where it may not be helpful today. The key thing to realize is that there's an arc of how detention regimes tend to go, and we're recognizably on it.

Very similar to Podcast Jay at NIH.

Trump and Bhattacharya keep repeating the deranged old playbooks on Big Lies because that’s what got them here: lies and division at a particular moment in history.

They don’t actually have a positive vision on anything.
Trump is on a posting bender right now and has is sharing deranged tinfoil hat stuff about the 2020 election

there are a range of reasons for that. but the shuttering of US Aid by a Nazi for very obviously racist reasons is arguably the worst atrocity perpetrated by a single president in terms of people killed in US history.

The first day Jay Bhattacharya was at NIH he gave an interview to Bari Weiss.
Ferguson also just became a regular contributor to the Free Press and is a co-founder of The University of Austin. CBS just becoming one brand in the Weissverse.

Agree with all of this.

For 99.9% of people right now, and that includes almost all people actively working to fight this regime, Signal is the best choice.
Of course no one should assume Signal is perfectly secure, and yes, for certain extreme circumstances, you should use no electronic comms.

But for 99.9% of Americans right now? “Signal is just as insecure as other forms of comms” is utterly irresponsible and counterproductive advice.

Incredible stuff.

Our NIH director is still having Twitter battles about 2020.

He still selling a fantasy of us how he “would have” perfectly handled Covid ignoring how he is actually handling measles.

Immigration officers in Minneapolis are now using a weapon that’s unfamiliar to many protesters: grenades that spew a noxious green gas.

These grenades contain worrisome chemicals.
What's the deal with that scary-looking green gas ICE is using in Minneapolis?
There are toxic ingredients in all of this stuff, but looks may be deceiving.

Cosign, Bill Kristol.
Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

I continue to be, let's say 'annoyed,' at nat'l coverage that posits "Americans" are reacting w/ passivity. Most leaders may be, but I spend every day talking to ordinary people taking extraordinary steps to protect their families, communities and countries. National media just missing the story.
Here @ashleyrparker.bsky.social tries to explain the peculiar passivity with which America has greeted naked authoritarianism.

Thread: Jay Bhattacharya and RFK Jr. censoring science and setting back American brain disease cures banning NIH travel to the ACNP meeting. 🧪
Meeting was last week. NIH scientists got word the week of Jan 5 that previously NIH-approved travel to ACNP meeting had been blocked by DHHS. I’ve heard estimates that this affected between 73 and 200 employees. Lots of theories as to why but no concrete explanation.
January 20, 2026 at 2:27 PM
Got a message: "all NIH scientists were banned from attending the ACNP meeting, perhaps due to ACNP's diversity and LGBTQ+ policies. Could be a hundred people."

Anyone know more?

The HHS is now claiming that Africa CDC is conducting "a public-relations campaign," offering no evidence for this claim. Yet I have a letter from a senior official in Guinea-Bissau saying it's been cancelled, and I've confirmed this with several other sources.

Wonder who's doing the PR campaign.
NEW: After officials in Guinea-Bissau announced they were cancelling a horrifying "Tuskegee"-style vaccine trial funded by the US government, an HHS spokesperson pushed back at us, saying the study will actually "proceed as planned."
