I'm not really sure I read the description of the project in the same way. But I guess that's called interpretation.

I was just thinking the same thing.

I was just there this morning. This is the block. Nothing is on fire. There is no destruction. There is no War Zone. We were out for a 22-mile bike ride on a beautiful Sunday morning. Our biggest obstacle was repeatedly encountering the ongoing PDX marathon route.
Three cyclists in front of Portland ICE headquarters on a beautiful sunny day. Empty street. Nothing going on.

I think about this almost every day.

Are yall ever just sitting around and out of the blue you remember — again — that all of this is because of ONE Black President?!!

Just the one!!

The Chronicle has actually been hostile to supporting universities' real mission of teaching and learning for some time. It's a publication that exists to support the managerial class whose inflated salaries steal our budgets

you're also screwed even if your book(s) are copyrighted but were scooped up by Anthropic in a period that is not part of the class action.

The official database of works eligible for the Anthropic AI settlement has been released and, as I suspected, many authors are screwed. Basically, if your books weren't officially registered with the US Copyright Office you're out of luck. 1/ secure.anthropiccopyrightsettlement.com/lookup/results
Welcome to the Anthropic Copyright Settlement Website
Are you the legal or beneficial copyright owner of a book included in the Anthropic Copyright Settlement?
You could get a payment from the $1.5 billion Settlement.

No it doesn't. My titles are registered with the U.S. copyright office. I've already checked.

this is very strange, because my work doesn't show up here, even though everything I have ever published showed up in the Atlantic search engine

@stevenvanwolputte.bsky.social look at this crowd!

My thanks to Jessica Hardin, @rebeccapscales.bsky.social, @rit-cola.bsky.social and RIT students for a great Conable lecture last night. Such great conversation about our new book ‘In The Land of the Lacandón’!

Available for pre-order now. Recommend to all of your friends who think of WWI only in terms of the Western Front! The results of two hugely talented historians co-authoring a book.

you made it to the right coast!

I love them. Perfect airplane reading. Haven't got this one yet though ...

Much of the cardboard and paper goods strewn about our homes are sold by a single private company, with its name, Uline, stamped on the bottom.

Many may not know that a multibillion-dollar fortune made on those ubiquitous products fuels far-right candidates across the country.

That Cardboard Box in Your Home Is Fueling Election Denial
A previously unreported boom in profits for the shipping supply giant Uline has provided the funds for a deeply conservative Midwestern family to bankroll anti-democracy causes around the country.

Yet another demonstration that AI is not a labor-saving device; it merely displaces the cleanup and mitigation (in realms where care, caution, accuracy, etc., actually matter) onto other people

I had to explain to someone in my age group a couple of years ago about how this was the inspiration for a scene from Ted Lasso.

I'm gonna do this later tonight when I'm done prepping for class. Have been seriously thinking lately about whether I could pull off an M.A. in public health while doing my job and finishing my book. (Because I need MORE to do, clearly) 😂

except that you might steal their job? I dunno
