I have lived and worked with Latinos for decades in Texas and formerly the Army. My neighbors and friends are Latino. What you’ve posted here is your own offensive stereotype. Sorry I can’t join you. Consider deleting 🙃

Right. My point is Cubans have very different issues than Mexican Americans, South and Central American immigrants, or Puerto Ricans. Cubans are much more anti immigrant than other Latinos bc they’ve had automatic political asylum for decades.

It’s a mistake to group Latino voters as some kind of monolith. Especially, then, to lump immigrants together to justify not caring about the Somalis. Cuban-American men ≠ Somali-American immigrants.

So he’s saying the “affordability” issue is a hoax bc the real problem is we’re spending too much on stuff for our kids?

Okay. Top concerns for us with aviation travel. I think I got it. The problem is us.

We need to wear nice clothes to the airport. Be nice to everyone. Catch a workout while waiting for our flight. And breastfeed.
This is the secretary of transportation.

She’s brilliant and fearless. Criticism is based exclusively on her “blackness”. She’ll do as well any other democrat. James Talarico should appeal to a Christian base, but the bulk of Texas Christians will vote GOP no matter what the candidate espouses. Christian nationalism is a cult.

Oh yeah, also, can I please add that God didn’t put “formula” in women’s breasts. Mothers do that. Mothers produce milk for their babies. Keep your grubby religiosity away from our bodies.
December 9, 2025 at 2:31 PM
These men have no idea how difficult it is to breast feed while working. And it’s the grossest thing to hear these creepy men talk about milk in women’s breasts.

I nursed four. Nursing is wonderful if you can do it and it’s right for you. But almost all babies are supplemented with formula at some point.
Y’all want more moms to breastfeed? Four months minimum paid maternity leave and accessible breastfeeding supplies/support would help a lot.

We ran across that in my dad’s 1949 basement. Tile on concrete. We just painted over it all with concrete floor paint 🫤

Here is the floor demo in progress. And the original kitchen. It was very charming, but barely functional. Original everything.

Then you’ve got to deal with drop ceilings, wiring, insulation, HVAC, water heaters, improperly capped gas lines, unsafe fireplaces … all before the fun stuff. Old homes are so charming, but it’s really prudent to get a really good structural inspector to anticipate these expenses.
December 8, 2025 at 4:29 PM
Biggest potential expenses imho, and in this order, are foundation, roof and gutters, drain and gas lines, interior plumbing, exterior drainage and grading. Sometimes huge old trees have to be removed. Oh, and old window restoration - almost always better to restore than replace. Done them all. 😵

Our wiring was actually perfect in this 1952 house according to the inspector and electrician. Replaced/upgraded the junction box, receptacles, switches. Added GFCIs. Of course the new construction got new wiring. Biggest problem is modern homes need a lot more power and must be load balanced.
December 8, 2025 at 4:11 PM
I did a lot of work on a 1870s house before this one and the problems were different. Mold and dust from the slurry floor basement, coal dust in the walls, and the plumbing was a complete mishmash put in the house in the 20s. Knob and tube wiring. No insulation. We had to replace 100 yo drains. 😵
December 8, 2025 at 4:04 PM
Seem every period home have certain issues and then more if later remodeling. Lead paint is a given. A 1950s home, for example, always has copper wiring, including light fixture connections. Later homes, especially the 60s, used aluminum connections in fixtures which can cause a fire hazard.

1952 home. It’s reasonable to assume all paint is lead paint. All of those old 9” floor tiles, commonly referred to as linoleum, are asbestos composite. But only the dust from those things are problematic. We did almost no sanding and our workers just popped the floor tiles up.

The heavy makeup. The white lips and eyes. He’s incredibly gross 🤮

My favorite part is the ladies vanity that was built in the space that was previously my ex husband’s closet, lol.
December 8, 2025 at 12:59 PM
Thank you. The concrete terrazzo tile was surprising affordable. It replaced the old asbestos 😅 composite tile. That rug is a 1970s vintage Tibetan tiger rug. I found it on either eBay or Etsy, I can’t remember which now. But you can find similar.

We salvaged the pink toilet and sink and put them in the new powder room. The wallpaper is a mural style which is custom scaled to the installation so the print isn’t cut off anywhere. It was a splurge.

Aging in place was our goal, but just one month after finishing the project, I was in a bad car accident and in a wheelchair for months. I was able to get my wheelchair in and out of the shower and get around outside bc we planned no steps outside or transition to house.
