Oh it’s not that - I’d love to just like fork Mastodon and build a new site on that, but the open-source license is so restrictive we’d end up open-sourcing our ad stack code. Bsky is better but in many ways it was just faster and easier to build our own thing while atproto matures

We haven't gotten that far mostly because our own identity project for disparate subscriptions, mailing lists, comments, etc is still being unified but once that's done I think we can find a way to let people connect through? It's fun to think through at least

it's our own and we will relay to both in the end. the licenses for mastodon and even bsky were too restrictive for a big commercial publisher with a complex tech stack, which i suspect is holding back adoption generally

There's just one tiny problem with this narrative: Cruz's own report shows that everything he's mad about started under Donald Trump, under whose leadership CISA was created.
