G4 solar storm watch in effect
A post from NOAA Space Weather on the incoming CME. The effects of it will depend on how its magnetic field interacts with Earth’s own, but there is potential for adverse effects on things like radio communication, satellite function, and the electrical grid though those can be mitigated by the people who run them. There is also the chance to see auroras as far south as Alabama or northern California.

Other nice features Disappearing messages You can set your messages to be deleted after a certain time, from 1 second to 4 weeks. This can help reduce data stored on your phone, or prevent someone from seeing your messages if they gain physical access to your phone. Note To Self This is just a way to message yourself within Signal. You can use it to record important information, or to send a message to yourself on another device (such as securely transferring information or an image from your phone to your desktop, if you have the desktop client) Signal Desktop App The desktop client allows you to use Signal from your desktop or laptop, but you will have to already being using Signal on your phone to use the desktop client.

Why private, secure communication is important You might think you have nothing to hide, but what if you or a loved one ends up needing healthcare that gets banned, such as an abortion or HRT? Even helping someone access healthcare might become criminalized. If you or someone you are trying to help has an abusive partner or parent, secure texts and calls may be critical to protecting the person’s safety and future. Are you and your coworkers part of a union or trying to form one? Bosses have been known to recruit cops to help with union suppression, and that may include trying to access your communications.

SMS (text messaging) is not secure Cybercriminals, foreign governments, and increasingly fascist state and national governments all may get access to your regular texts. Signal uses end-to-end encryption, which means that it’s ridiculously difficult for anyone, including the people who run Signal, to get into your messages or calls through the app. Signal is open source, so it’s very unlikely that corporate or state actors would be able to sneak weaknesses into it without someone noticing.

Following up on those last few reposts, a reminder that each #COVID-19 infection increases your risk of #LongCovid, by 40% at 3 infections. And asymptomatic or mild infections count too.
