Maybe it's just the wrong election to try to compare 2024 to. The election against John Adams and Andrew Jackson in 1828 was the first rematch in US history as Adams barely beat Jackson in 1824. Jackson returned in 1828 with a strong victory, as well as an authoritarian leadership style.
