I think the horsepower chasing is uniquely an issue for the luxury market - their buyers are tasteless mouthbreathers deciding on stats so they brag to their friends at the country club.

Motorcycle market has already shifted to small/mid-size bikes that are fun and inexpensive to buy/run.
