The Convention will assess claims for compensation for damage, loss or injury caused by Russian aggression in Ukraine.

Ukrainian survivors are urging States to sign it and to adopt an inclusive, victim-centred approach to reparations that include victims before the 2022 full-scale invasion.

Gurpreet's brother, Jagtar Singh Johal, was violently arrested in India 8 years ago and has been arbitrarily detained in India ever since - despite a court acquitting him in one of the nine cases against him.

No family should have to fight this long.

For those who have already waited more than a decade for justice, this exclusion is not technical. It is a denial of recognition and dignity.

We recently met a group of Ukrainian survivors to discuss the urgent need for comprehensive and inclusive reparation, within the Claims Commission & beyond.

Eight years ago, Scottish activist Jagtar Singh Johal was abducted off the street while on honeymoon with his wife in India.

He has been detained on charges based on a “confession” extracted under torture ever since.

The UK must apply maximum diplomatic pressure on India to secure his release.
