The creation of DemComm tasked it with addressing specific organizational flaws which the Omnibus fails to adequately address. Instead, after struggling to make quorum to finalize the omnibus, Commissioners ask to be reseated again with no election.

Treating the Omnibus as an indivisible whole is entirely misleading. Each plank was added individually, and the end result is the product of horse-trading, not grand political synthesis. Delegates were prevented from considering its planks separately.

As we did in 2023, we oppose NPC expansion. The NPC's problems are not structural – they are political. The body already struggles to make quorum and schedule meetings, and expansion exacerbates these issues.

We believe the negative impact of NPC expansion and DemComm rechartering outweigh the benefits of the other planks. If the Omnibus is not divided, we support voting down the entire thing. Read our full article here: redstarcaucus.org/demcomm/
Red Star Opposes NPC Expansion (Again)
Red Star recommends that Delegates support a motion to divide the question on the DemComm Omnibus. We support specifically separating NPC Expansion and DemComm Rechartering from the other planks, and ...

6/ We cleaned up DSA’s finances, implemented reforms, and pushed a Member-Guided Budgeting proposal. We can’t go back to boom-bust cycles. Transparent, member-led budgeting is how we build a sustainable socialist org.

5/ On budgeting

Red Star led the response to a $2M+ deficit after outgoing directors privately told the NPC that layoffs would be needed to keep the organization solvent, and urged them to move quickly.

4/ On grievances

We worked to replace an unaccountable staff officer w/ a member-led National Grievance Panel. Implementation has been uneven, but we're laying groundwork for a truly democratic, accountable system, starting with CR08-A02 to improve oversight & member control.

3/ On the connection with chapters

We made the NPC more accessible via visits, mentoring, & trainings, but there's still no formal link b/w 200+ chapters/OCs & national. We oppose "Super Organizer" reliance & support building more sustainable connections.

6/ Partnership with the Staff Union

Facing a budget crisis we chose painful but necessary staffing cuts over slashing chapter dues. We pushed for transparency & raising staff wages, but parts of this pledge stalled and there's much more to do.

5/ Commitment to the NPC

This NPC term had the lowest resignation rate in DSA’s modern era, a welcome change from past infighting & instability. But we’ve also heard from staff & members that clearer political guidance is still needed.

4/ Disciplined Communication

We re-opened the Discussion Boards, moved convention debate off Elon’s platform, & made it secure, accessible, & member-run. Proposal participation tripled vs 2023 & ~3.5k NEW members used the new system.

3/ Expanding the Growth & Development Committee

Red Star led reforms to the GDC to democratize it, end gatekeeping, & make it truly member-led. Applications surged, the largest general meeting on record was held, & far more members are active. We let members cook & it worked.
