Finally, criticism is fine. Harassment is not. Feel free to call someone out whenever needed, but no one has a right to air dirty laundry to one's relatives. This post is not about me. It's about both sides of a coin that I cannot believe hasn't addressed all of these yet. 3/4

Second, the idea of singlehandedly getting all the credit for the niche re-popularization of legacy media formats among our community rubs me the wrong way. It's okay to say we're proud of the kind of work we do, but to basically turn this into a winner-take-all sport, it just feels way too off. 2/4

Now may be the time to think about what we do as archivists.
First, I'll use fair use as a pretext in this. We do not own the rights to the content that we preserve, but the mere act of preservation absolves us almost immediately (at least in American copyright law). 1/4
