Currently (sort of) building my own CD player but I can't think of a cool design...

That's AI for you. Google, OpenAI, Microsoft and so on, they don't value basic principles, art and even life itself.
Remember, just because something has a fun and clean interface, it isn't something good. Stop supporting these corporations, use alternatives!
