I favor "goon" myself. Absolutely no historical reference (it first appeared in Popeye comic strips) or racial implications, and the word connotes "clownish dolt" more than "scary predator".

Like, I think what I'm getting at with my whole "big swing" idea is that what is needed is the opposite of "hey it's all kinda OK as it is, just needs some tweaks & goosing". Going "you're right to be pissed off at how things are" is also an opposite

My hot take is Dems either need to swing big - "New Deal", "Great Society" swings - or they're going to be condemned to this cycle
That, and saying "the Republicans suck, I mean *really* suck, their policies are awful" doesn't persuade
