friedrich engels on “social murder” in his book condition of the working class (1845)
When one individual inflicts bodily injury upon another such that death results, we call the deed manslaughter; when the assailant knew in advance that the injury would be fatal, we call his deed murder. But when society places hundreds of proletarians in such a position that they inevitably meet a too early and an unnatural death, one which is quite as much a death by violence as that by the sword or bullet; when it deprives thousands of the necessaries of life, places them under conditions in which they cannot live— forces them, through the strong arm of the law, to remain in such conditions until that death ensues which is the inevitable consequence— knows that these thousands of victims must perish, and yet permits these conditions to remain, its deed is murder just as surely as the deed of the single individual; disguised, malicious murder, murder against which (cont.) none can defend himself, which does not seem what it is, because no man sees the murderer, because the death of the victim seems a natural one, since the offence is more one of omission than of commission. But murder it remains. I have now to prove that society in England daily and hourly commits what the working-men’s organs, with perfect correctness, characterise as social murder, that it has placed the workers under conditions in which they can neither retain health nor live long; that it undermines the vital force of these workers gradually, little by little, and so hurries them to the grave before their time. I have further to prove that society knows how injurious such conditions are to the health and the life of the workers, and yet does nothing to improve these conditions. That it knows the consequences of its deeds; that its act is, therefore, not mere manslaughter, but murder, I shall have proved, when I cite official documents, reports of Parliament and of the Government, in substantiation of my charge.

hearing word that, with tay tay’s exciting and bold new record drop, many of her fans are “getting swifty”

these goods all have perpetual demand so if they are nationalized you have a secure labor force as well
refreshingtime.bsky.social
a friend and i were discussing retail theft and high priced essentials are the most often stolen products. and the truth is those items should be drastically priced down through mandate or not priced at all. there is no reason taxes cannot pay for toilet paper or condoms or pregnancy tests or advil
refreshingtime.bsky.social
bizarre little man. you have the board
refreshingtime.bsky.social
if capitalism supposedly breeds innovation, why are products that we are unable to innovate not nationalized and sold at set prices or provided for free? what point is there to different competing brands of toilet paper, or pregnancy tests, or medications, or pencils?

instead of saying the appeasement “both sides” stuff zohran is saying, i would suggest trying: not saying any of that crap at all

and you cant even speak on the data, yet you do! you judge people’s votes and the left, even though, for the fourth time, they had no effect on this. exit polls BACK THEN showed otherwise, directly after the election. you have chosen to lie about who was at fault
refreshingtime.bsky.social
the article is showed you specifically shows it was not outcome determinative at all, period, regardless of which states you want to cherry pick. it had no effect on the outcome of the general election
refreshingtime.bsky.social
you are the third person today i have had to show this two month old article to, about something exit polls already showed. you guys are angry about an issue that literally does not exist
refreshingtime.bsky.social
that provably did not happen though. regardless of jill stein’s intent the votes for her had no actual effect on the election. you are angry about nothing
refreshingtime.bsky.social
if you want to be mad at trump voters, by all means waste your time on that! they are not on here though. they wont see you complaining or care about your advice
refreshingtime.bsky.social
every day on this site i see at least a handful of people whining about things disproven by this article. stop relitigating the election and getting angry about how people voted. your primary focus has never been an actual issue
Trump still would have won in 2024 even if everyone had turned out to vote, Pew finds
In 2024, 64% of the eligible-voting population turned out, the second highest in 120 years. New data show that even if all those voters who stayed home had voted, Trump would still be president today.
