Absolutely outrageous that staff are being locked out at Sheffield Uni - please donate and share the gofundme link.

Solidarity!
Many of my colleagues @sheffielducu.bsky.social are 'locked out' for refusing to replace teaching missed during strike. Deductions have already been taken for that action. If you have any cash spare, donations gratefully received so that branch can support members. gofund.me/9b971e2a8

Short-termism kills knowledge.

It's government that provides the incentives for this drive to cut into a university's key resource, whatever the long-term harm. We need an overhaul of the financial & governance system of #UKHE.
UK Universities cut 13,300 jobs, paid £300m+ in redundancy.

Economic contribution of the HE sector, £265bn.

Systematically destroyed by govts - foreign students not welcome, cut real-term grants, fees, students burdened with debts, low staff pay/morale.

Govt want skilled labour.

Pay-off spend up by two-thirds as universities shed 13,000 jobs
Analysis of UK sector accounts shows number of job losses well above predictions, with experts warning cuts are not over yet

Brilliant pickets - love the homemade banner! And absolutely correct - it's not fair that FE teachers are paid less than school teachers.

That's why we need to keep fighting for national binding bargaining! #UCU #NewDealForFE
St Helens, Knowsley and Liverpool are out on the picket lines this morning.
FE staff have faced a 40% real-terms pay cut and are paid around £9,000 less for doing the same job.

That’s not fair and it’s not sustainable.

Show your support ✊

More pay for FE. Less work for FE.
📣 Bournemouth & Poole College staff out in force today.

Further education keeps communities going but staff are stretched, underpaid and undervalued.
This is what solidarity looks like. ✊

College leaders, come to the table.

Great to have Jo down on our pickets and to see photos of our colleagues standing up for fair pay for all.

We need national binding bargaining to end pay inequality.

It's not right that staff at my place are paid more than elsewhere, just because we have a stronger UCU branch that pushes back.
College lecturers in England are paid £7,000+ less than their equivalents in schools and 6th form colleges.

Our members aren’t having it anymore.

Proud to stand alongside thousands taking strike action today.

It wasn't just staff & students in HE that protested - so did FE. At our place we had to fight with management to make sure our students could go down to the protests. Increasingly are W/C students have chosen not to go. UCU should fight and lobby to end this ridiculous funding system.
Yes: student loans are bad.

We told you so.

In 2010, when the ConDems announced £9k fees, staff and students in Higher Education marched and protested.

The students who marched did not have to pay the fees.

Staff were fed propaganda we would benefit.

And yet we marched.

Useful thread about what branches can do to offer @sheffielducu.bsky.social Sheffield UCU some practical solidarity in the coming days...
1️⃣ Branch committees may be limited by what they can pledge, but if this action becomes deadlocked in the New Year, branches should call emergency general meetings, invite speakers from Sheffield UCU and consider what solidarity and support they can offer.

Branch donations must continue.

Police inaction on sexual violence against women & girls laid bare again.

A culture of impunity for misogyny.

Almost 1 in 3 women experience rape or domestic violence.

Over 90% of perpetrators are known to victims & 1 in 2 rapists are partners or ex-partners. #r4today
