you can actually run a web server on disposable vapes.

as long as it has a micro/application processor and not just a controller / ASIC.

For performance,
Probably the most clever thing I could do is check the color of the diffuse texture and then apply certain lighting based on the hue or value.
Which seems to work fairly well to mask rim lighting to only Bright Or dark areas, for example without a separate texture

Thanks!!

I'll try that.
I was indeed, using multiple windows. So I could look at shaders on another monitor.

Downgrading to Godot 4.2 seemed to prevent crashing but I probably need to test more. To see if that's actually a regression.

2/2

Complaining about languages and not understanding transpilers is missing the bigger issue with browsers which is that their rendering backends and audio backends are sandboxed and have poor latency /performance.

Not the developer experience.

We have that.
We have webgl And WebGPU to replace CSS.

If you want to use CSS for layout, and render it visually with webgl. You can do that too.

...And there's webassembly.
Anything that can't be loaded in wasm there's transpilers for that.
Since JavaScript is a compile Target as well.

almost every desktop environment uses .desktop files to launch apps graphically,
and the system searches for those in
/usr/share/applications and
~/.local/share/applications

ironically it's much easier to learn linux using llms, even if you don't integrate ai into everything on your system.

most stuff can run from your home directory, relative to ~/
When in doubt,
`which program-name` to find out where it is.
If needed, add folders to your PATH variable in ~/.bashrc

also wireless vr on linux is on par or better than windows now with ALVR, wlx-overlay-s, SteamVR beta (and allegedly also Monado)
December 14, 2025 at 5:27 PM
ya, but don't we want people to switch to desktop linux, creating lasting change?
December 14, 2025 at 5:22 PM
Maybe Godot just hates me.

The whole reason I started using godot, (since I'm more of a library/framework person)
Is that webxr isn't supported by any browsers on desktop Linux currently, And stereokit didn't work/ had texture errors..

But in general wireless VR on Linux is quite good now.

Maybe it's an Nvidia or Wayland thing?
December 14, 2025 at 4:32 PM
The Auto industry is suspicious tho.
Why do they need government bailouts all the time?
Aren't businesses supposed to be profitable?
December 14, 2025 at 4:31 PM
Sounds like you're in the pipeline.

All it takes is watching one episode of Not Just Bikes,
...and you wake up one day as a gay atheist communist.
December 14, 2025 at 4:29 PM
Are you on Windows or Linux?

Building and testing works fine.
But I kept running into things hovering over something in the UI in the editor itself would freeze.
December 14, 2025 at 4:23 PM
Ah.. also 4.2.
Sorry I could have just read that.

But is it just me or is 4.5 less stable?
December 14, 2025 at 4:15 PM
Very cool.

I'm guessing this relies on a specific version of Godot or at least a certain minimum version.

4.5 seemed unstable. It was crashing a lot.
At least with the official Open XR extensions and the template project for that, So I'm using 4.2 now.. but I'm sure that's a foot gun
December 14, 2025 at 4:14 PM
Is that an editor extension?

Have you published it? 👀

but the career thing is legit.

the only long term relationship i was in basically deteriorated and ended because i focused on my career.

and now i'm alone and poor.
(but at least i have autonomy / government assistance 🙃)

my brother has a child, and he's pretty miserable living with his co-parent (they also constantly fight / only living together until my niece is old enough to move out.)

i theorize that once there's no example of a healthy family unit, people just stop wanting to replicate one.
December 14, 2025 at 10:11 AM
at least Sanseitō isn't blaming the decline on autism.

Personally the biggest factor i can think of as to why i didn't start a family is trauma from my parents fighting and getting divorced when i was an adolescent.
December 14, 2025 at 10:05 AM
and what standard would that be?
