The Phoenix Magazine claims the Connolly/Éirigí story was conveniently leaked just before the Indo was going to lead with the Gavin rental scandal. Interesting. #Áras25 #aras25

The last time there was a 2 candidate presidential election was 1973, with Erskine Childers Jr. (FF) v. Tom O’Higgins (FG). Childers won then died a year later. A series of uncontested nominations after this meant the next presidential election wasn’t until 1990, won by Mary Robinson (Lab). #Áras25

Hasn’t happened since 1973, Erskine Childers v. Tom O’Higgins.

Sutcliffe isn’t even in Independent Ireland anymore, he left the party to sit as an independent in November 2024. Absolute hopeless case.

It’s Delgany (near Greystones) you’re thinking of. Only town in the country to have a Protestant church but not a Catholic one. The Irish names for both towns are very similar, Deilgne (Delgany) and Deilginis (Dalkey).

Irish media doing more than just reprinting press releases from FFG or random businessmen? Never.

In any conflict, we should oppose the aggressor and defend the aggressed, regardless of identity. I have only contempt for the Iranian regime, but Iran was attacked by Israel and the US without sufficient cause or legal justification. Israel and the US are the aggressors, Iran the aggressed.

I understand why they choose bank holidays to do maintenance on the dart lines but it is awfully annoying.

I agree, certainly in the Republic SFs growth and it’s becoming a “normal” political party have definitely loosened discipline a bit.

ACAB does not include the clampers actually, get your car out of the way

Such a shame, a complete lack of future planning all to keep the car lobby happy and save a few quid, and then flush all the savings down the toilet when it needs a massive capacity increase in a few years!

Reduced capacity and slower journeys? It's not looking great for Cork Luas. Here's what others are saying.
Does Cork Luas have a capacity problem? Journey time from Ballincollig to City Centre up to 35 minutes from original 27

Very little priority given to trams, it’s going to slow the tram down

The preferred route is not future-proofed

Cork Deserves better

Feljin Jose - Green Spokesperson for Transport It’s absolutely insane how congested Cork is, and we need to demand better to ensure that Cork isn’t locked into the same thing for decades and decades

Cork is one of the fastest growing cities in Ireland, so we really do need this capacity to fuel the growth of the city

It’s taking a twisty route through suburbs which is going to involve a lot of turns, slower speeds and will bring down capacity

Ciarán Meers - Cork Commuter Coalition Answers are needed as to why the number of predicted passenger journeys have dropped from 46 million to 16 million

If that’s due to inefficiencies in the planned route, sharing road space with traffic or a reduction in frequency, then that has to be addressed

The outline I was given is that a second public consultation could happen in 2026 and a railway order sought in 2027. Construction would then take five to six years. That’s the kind of pace of timeline we need

Oliver Moran - Green Party Councillor in Cork

Surely our “housing czar” should just be the minister for housing?

I agree that the EU should move quicker away from Russian gas. But what should Ireland be doing in your opinion? I was saying that expanding renewables was far more reasonable than starting up a brand new LNG import network. Were you disagreeing with me? Or have we just got our wires crossed?
reicscarlo.bsky.social
Yes, I’m certainly not arguing that Russian gas is better than US gas. I’m not entirely sure what your point is, the EU has already shifted to US LNG from Russian gas. However this is not an issue that directly affects Ireland, as we only import British gas.
reicscarlo.bsky.social
Well as far as I’m aware we don’t buy any LNG at all, there are no terminals for it on the island. That’s why Dan O’Briens suggestion is so ridiculous, there would be a massive infrastructure cost to import it. Absurd to spend money on it when we could expand renewables instead.

Government TDs!? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localised entirely within the opposition benches!?

Just opened a lovely Lego set I was given for Christmas. Great to see the plastic packaging replaced by paper. #lego #recycle

Great to see. Hopefully the first of many steps in tackling drug addiction, and improving people’s lives.

Sure doesn’t everyone state 23 times in 30 minutes to journalists that they sold their shares before getting involved in politics, only to admit a few hours later that it was a lie.

The Eoin Hayes debacle is a shocking indictment of the Soc Dems party organisation.
They spend half an hour defending him in front of the press, then suspend him indefinitely an hour later.
It increases my worry that the SDs are just a loose coalition of progressive independents, not a real party.
