Cancer is a peach - said no one ever. Its a head fuck but good things can come of it, if you live to tell the tale. Early diagnosis saves lives.

I love Desert Island Discs. If you're not familiar, guests in the BBC radio programme pick eight tracks to take to a desert island.
1st pick: Suede - Waterloo; because I love the lyrics about someone holding you and helping you breathe.

Had a nightmare about school starting again last night. Woke up feeling so grateful that I'm no longer teaching in the UK (or anywhere) and that I can write for a living.

The plan was to write like crazy while I was home alone. But these little ones are so distracting. I could simply watch them for hours waiting for them to leave the nest.

I had 7 months off work because of cancer. Never felt guilty. Quite the opposite: I was happy to get a break. Even if it came with a supersized portion of cancer and fear of death.

Saw the doctor who did my colonoscopy in the supermarket today. She didn't recognise me. Maybe she would have recognised my bowels.

Following a Writing Process for Fiction (Storytelling 101 Quick Read Series)
One of the biggest mistakes aspiring authors make is denying that they're following a process when writing a short story or a novel. These writers often say they write “from the seat of their pants.” ...

Police looking into the sets of certain acts at Glastonbury. Not holding high hopes for the outcome considering their recent track record. Disgusting that the acts should be allowed to perform and that the BBC thinks it's ok to air them.

A day in the life of a Lynch syndrome carrier: drinking colon cleanser at 5 am to prepare for a colonoscopy. Still, I'd rather have regular check ups that can save my life than risk dying before my time. With Lynch, knowledge really is power.

This could have been a disastrous summer: my local library has closed for renovations. Until 1.9!!!

Luckily, I prepared for the emergency situation with a large pile of books.
