Life is more important than books, but I do want to say that I appreciate Star Fruit's place in the industry. They license such cool books that would otherwise go missed.

It's the suddenness of the change with no warning. The uncertainty and erratic nature of changes to businesses that have their production costs and shipping costs etc planned months in advance

Goes without saying but even 'temporarily" halting all shipments to the US shows that they screwed this up

Exactly, the chilling effect is already happening at small publishers we know in EU

if you've ever run a mail order, you know that any changes to shipping rates, let alone losing the ability to send orders to entire countries... that uncertainty alone can completely tank and shutter your business

i know what you mean though, i'm certain you could get away with shipping a single issue of something in a "large envelope" without any customs paperwork, but the hassle and risk makes it super annoying (as someone who sends zines to Australia as "large envelopes" under the radar)
