Keynote doesn't let me draw lines with soft ends (i.e. rounded rather than rectangular), so I used an em-dash using Arial Rounded and made the font-size fracking 'uge.

Stupid Apple.

Requires a working plex server, which is where my system fails every damn time. There's something wrong with buffering out (maybe power of the device…unsure)
remysharp.com
That's the first half of the issue (which sounds straight forward to overcome), second part is how I can get songs/playlists offline to play on the phone (and Plex has *never* worked for me - I'm jinxed)

(I'm sure it's possible), but I'd want to buy them, then give them back - i.e. it's literally the waste that I'm trying to avoid.

We ripped all our CDs a long time ago and then sold them off. Which is great because I can listen to the songs that remind me of the times, but kinda eternally locked in time because I can't bring myself to buy more CDs!

Is there a site like 404 Media, but for UK news? (i.e. I want to pay for journalist quality)

Just one more reason for me to lock down on cancelling the family subscription I've been paying for, for quite possibly a decade.

“Opt in” will be persistent, annoying calls to action that get in the way of everything, as is tradition.

Spotify hasn’t been a music service for years. It’s just another tired SaaS, out of ideas, and doing nothing particularly well.

Spotify is partnering with ChatGPT

• Available on an opt-in basis

Had I designed my cart with the addition of one more chip (mbc1), it would have worked :-|

Annoyingly the actual issue was that I wanted to use images in the "slides" (screens on the gameboy ROM) and I made my custom cart PCB so it could only hold 32k but too late did the maths for the bytes required for the tiles required for an image: it would let me have 4 screens.

I was just saying this exact thing this morning, but in my case, it's 15 minutes, which, is actually a pretty decent chunk of time.

It's those 5 minute lightning talks that I've got mad respect for!

Had a stress dream about my lightning talk at @webdevconf.com - it's been a long fricking minute since I've had one of those!

Annoyingly though, my plan to present directly from a gameboy has failed (technical reasons on my side). Might make a nice blog post though.

No, certainly not for more complicated tasks. This was pretty specific and very easy to test (i.e. did it deploy and work on netlify).

Finally finished reading "Empire of AI" (took nearly 2 months, I'm slow!) - but really strong - lots learnt. I've tried to summarise here - plus links (and potentially _too_ many highlights): remysharp.com/books/2025/e...
Empire of AI: Dreams and Nightmares in Sam Altman's OpenAI
(4/5) I'd recommend anyone who wants to understand the emergence of AI and OpenAI in particular to read this book.

Yeah, the grander idea was to make the content searchable through feedbin's API (it's going into one massive feedbin account) - ala technorati days

Holocaust was legal, hiding Jews was not.

Slavery was legal; freeing slaves was not.

Segregation was legal; fighting for equality got you killed.

Being a wealthy child molester is legal; abortions is not.

Laws are not a guide for human decency and morality.

This (incomplete) project was hosted on Vercel last week but now on Netlify: gimme-rss.isthe.link

I let Github's copilot hosted thing make the PR: github.com/remy/gimme-r... (original prompt at the bottom) and it actually worked first time (albeit a fairly simple project).

On to the next ones then

How do people feel about stable diffusion images in slides?

I tried "a very old grandma playing a gameboy looking extremely excited" - intentionally not on openai, et al, and I get this. I mean… she looks excited, right?

(tried my best on the alt-text)
Very hard to describe this atrosity. Definitgely an old lady, but her eyes are entirely something else. She's wearing a christmas cracker hat. She also has two left hands an no right hands. The thumb or finger, fuck knows which, extruding is more akin to something out of Alien.

There's a black and grey box in front of her, facing away, with lots of buttons, nothing like a gameboy.

In fact, the whole thing is nightmare inducing.

Just found a project (that was actually quite useful), that I coded in Nov 2019. But it never made it into git, so doing that now, then converting from vercel to netlify.
