Y'all I'm just tring to survive out here, and do what very little i can to help make a world that doesn't make me feel like fucking dying every single goddamn day. What in the actual fuck.

I'm for anything in scope between truth and reconciliation commissions and Nuremberg, but at present we've tried neither and that's gotta change.

Nobody has Long COVID, but everybody has brain fog, cognitive decline and memory loss. I talk about the overwhelming scientific evidence that COVID damages the brain, and the overwhelming social unwillingness to acknowledge it in my latest:

When Will the Lion Concern Himself
Joking memes make light of the uncomfortable reality: everyone's got a little of that post-COVID brain damage these days

The current paradigm of "AI" encodes & recapitulates eugenicist, fascist, and generally bigoted tendencies— but previous paradigms did, too, & if these facts had been addressed, then, in the culture of technology specifically and our sociotechnical culture writ large, it might not still be like that

So we're finally watching Peacemaker, and I think if for some reason Fraction couldn't serve as showrunner on this adaptation, Gunn could do right by it; he too has perfect mastery of the hilarious/poignant knife.

Rereading 'Sex Criminals' because i need laughter and poignancy any way i can fucking get it right now and i need it like fucking whoa, and two things have occured to me:

1) in the universe where human society is well adjusted/enlightened enough to adapt this for tv, Dave is played by Marc Maron;…

Ah yes. In no way is this repeated usage of the image of arguably one one of the most famous disabled people in history symptomatic of a eugencist society running on meta-eugenic structures. Nor is is it indicative of the way gen AI enhances the fash aesthetics. In. No. Way. AT ALL. (!) /sarcasm

Genuine question - what are OpenAI’s Sora and other video generation tools good for?

I am honestly trying to understand what is so important that it’s worth the cost. If you have examples, I would be interested to hear them.

People Are Making Sora 2 Videos of Stephen Hawking Being Horribly Brutalized
People are using OpenAI's Sora 2 to generate videos of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking being brutalized in ghoulish ways.

I think they must have (or at least JUST missed doing so): Corretta Scott King started in 1945, and Serling started after the war, graduating in 1950.
wolvendamien.bsky.social
I say again: Rod Serling was real as hell
wolvendamien.bsky.social
Since i was a kid, I've loved Rod Serling's work as a creator. Once i began to learn about his strong commitment to civil rights work, I also deeply admired him just as a person. The man did not flinch from this.

Photo of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: a Black man with close-cut hair & a tidy mustache wears a suit & sits at a table with his hands loosely clasped near his face; he is looking off to his right with a thoughtful expression on his face, the whole image evoking both prayer and contemplation of the future.

People are saying that "oh so bsky feeds all our images into AI datasets!" when he's saying the opposite of this, all cos he's a tech guy and they have no comms people!

I came to tech from an education in the humanities and a long-standing hobby of fucking around with computer languages, and I don't think I properly appreciated how much tech folks don't get trained in How To Talk And Write About What I'm Doing until I started teching professionally.

…Well.

But if that's *not* what aaron means to say, here— if he instead means they have no *initial* input— it'd really help to have some clarifications as to that.

Bsky C-Suite: Hire communications professionals because you DO run a social platform and your users WILL demand to hear from you, and you DO need help crafting that.

Obviously.

Hive's Terms of Use expressly forbids using their service for facial recognition and identification, and they say they'll never use any Customer data to build generative models for external use, and that's all well and actually very good, but if bsky don't have *any* input on refining these models?…
wolvendamien.bsky.social
Wait, I'm sorry: WHAT tf is happening? Is Bsky Trust & Safety actually saying that they don't provide input on the 3rd party "AI" that is the 1st tier of all image & video moderation on this website? Am I actually reading that right? Because that seems like a completely bananas way to run a railroad

Starting to believe you guys have an interview process where you make sure everyone you hire is absolutely utter shit at explaining anything about the site, so every response and skeet anyone posts just makes every issue worse. This is literally the dumbest response you could have given.

Of course. But, there is a difference between that being done as an inevitability of the open web, and it being hand fed by Bluesky itself.

Whoever on your team, @moderation.bsky.app who has marked images of a disabled person attaching prosthetics as “Explicit Sexual Images” appears to be admitting to acrotomophilia …

that person should perhaps be removed from the role of Moderation …

Because disability isn’t “Explicit Sexual Images”
autismsupsoc.bsky.social
According To your own account @moderation.bsky.app “Adult Content” is
“Explicit sexual images”

A clothed person who is missing an eye and a leg is not “Explicit Sexual Images”

A clothed disabled person who is putting on their prosthetics is not “Explicit Sexual Images”
Adult Content
Explicit sexual images.

They call it a Cassandra complex, but honestly, it's pretty simple...

Anyone else ever get that wave of sickening vertigo upon realizing the ontological project that drove your work on AI ethics, and that you abandoned 10 years ago as irrelevant, is still just as relevant today—if not more so?
