Mannequin Pussy - I Got Heaven

Solid if nothing too new for the riot grrrl genre. Always nice to discover a new female-led punk band. While the storytelling here is fairly compelling, this project really struggles to balance the ballads with the bangers in a way that makes sense

I mean, I Should Watch TV is just a Talking Heads song. I do still really like it though. Who, Weekend in the Dust, I Am an Ape and Lazarus are highlights as well.

St. Vincent & David Byrne - Love This Giant

Funky yet fantastical like a fairy tale. Weird even by both of these artists’ standards. A lot of it has yet to click, but I will get the complaint out of the way that not every song is a good showcase of their *collaborative* strength

Feeling the second half more than the first. The End of the Contender is great, though. (Cold Reactor is just ok). Other tracks that jumped out at me are Wild Guess; Canary; Your Money, My Summer; Dagger’s Edge; The Witness.

Unsure how to feel. It’s missing a lot of the frenetic energy + constantly changing grooves and tempos I’ve come to expect. Feels very “lounge” and chill by comparison. It’s going to take some time for these synths to really sink in, I think.
