Gyrinophilus porphyriticus, a large salamander covered in mud amongst leaves in a muddy puddle. This is one of the larger members of the lungless salamanders, Plethodontidae, and they are known to eat other amphibians, fish and even small mammals and reptiles. A large male Gharial, Gavialis gangeticus, carries several dozen young on his back. This is a species where both male and female will care for their young and oftentimes larger, dominant individuals will care for and carry the young of other gharials as well as their own as they are a very communal species. Gavialis gangeticus is one of two living species of Gharial, the other being Tomistoma schlegelii, both belonging to the family Gavialidae which, along with alligators (including caimans) and crocodiles make up the three extant families of modern crocodilians. Both Gharial species are fish specialists, although Tomistoma has a slightly more varied diet, and both are very endangered and are at risk of mostly pollution and habitat destruction. Sclerocephalus haeuseri, a Temnospondyl amphibian from the Lower Permian. A large amphibian that looks like a combination between a frog and a giant salamander fossilized in strata. This was a large semi-aquatic predator that fed mainly on fish.

The Northern Red Salamander, Pseudotriton ruber, active really anytime that’s not the coldest of winter. From New York to the North Florida Gulf Coast and as far west as Mississippi
Pseudotriton ruber, a fairly large bright red salamander with black spots, short limbs, and protruding eyes. It is being gently held by a hand before being moved off of a trail and into some woods.

Acrocanthosaurus atokensis

A very large dinosaur skull with a mouthful of large, sharp teeth. It resembles a T. rex but it is an earlier species of Carcharadontontosauridae: Acrocanthosaurus atokensis, a very large predator in early Cretaceous North America. It was similar to Tyrannosaurus rex in size and predates it by 60 million years or so.

Some fall gold, in the form of leaves and Two-Lined Salamanders (Eurycea bislineata)
A northern two-lined salamander, Eurycea bislineata, a golden brown salamander,crawls across a rock from one part of a creek to another. A tree with bright yellow leaves. I believe this is elm but am not sure A northern two-lined salamander, Eurycea bislineata, resting in water by several leaves. The yellow maple leaf highlights its own yellow on its back. A third two-line salamander wedges itself between a small and large rock in a stream. It’s yellow belly visible yet still camouflaged among the various brightly colored leaves.
