So we have like three utility boxes in our yard and I just noticed this yellow wire that appears to be fraying pointing towards them. I'm not sure who I should call though about it. Help?

Also was the biggest proponent of SB1 in the Ohio House and submitted legislation to protect minority law student scholarships (which were explicitly banned in SB1)

However, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that public colleges and universities can no longer consider race in admissions. That decision, whether we agree with it or not, is now the law of the land. More than a year ago, the Ohio Attorney General issued guidance directing our public universities to stop using race or any similar classifications in their admissions and scholarship processes. Senate Bill 1 does not change that—it simply brings Ohio law into alignment with the Supreme Court’s ruling and the AG’s existing directives. During the legislative process, I introduced an amendment to protect minority-based scholarships. Okay for any academics out there that use @quarto.org to produce pdfs and have to deal with the new accommodation demands I think I have a solution.

For basic PDFs you can get appropriate tagging using quarto -> typst -> PDF.

1 current prob: The typst version quarto uses doesn't support this...

My statement for today's Butler County Commissioner meeting calling on them to end their contract with ICE.
Hello, my name is Kevin Reuning, I live in Oxford, Ohio. I’m asking you today to reconsider Butler County’s relationship with ICE, especially the contract to house detainees in Butler County jails. There is an old union song with a simple question: which side are you on? This question is still relevant today, and is relevant as you consider ending the contract with ICE. So which side are you on? Are you on the side of a broken immigration system, or are you on the side of an American dream where hard work can create opportunities for anyone? Are you on the side of a sheriff who spends his time making AI videos of himself as a buff bounty hunter or are you on the side of an Imam who fled a brutal regime and spends his time helping children face illness? Are you on the side of a federal agent who shoots a woman and then calls her an F***ing B*** or are you on the side of a woman who is afraid for her neighbors and tells that same agent “I’m not mad at you” moments before being shot? Are you on the side of a federal agency that posts memes about deporting 100 million people or are you on the side of the Haitians who did everything right to only be lied about and have their legal status stripped from them? Are you on the side of continuing working with an agency that doesn’t care about the damage they inflict, or are you on the side working to improve Butler county for everyone by making everyone safer? I know this is a politically hard decision for you all, but leadership is doing what is right even when it isn’t easy. Leadership is being on the right side even when there is risk involved. Thank you for your time.

How ITU responded to the introduction of linotype machines feels relevant to today.
Photo of a page of a book. Text: requiring a consistent national policy was fought over control of the linotype machines, which when introduced in the 189o's threatened to displace many printers. The employers initially insisted that the level of skill required to operate the new machines was less than that required to set type by hand and on these grounds attempted to introduce new, lower-paid workers. The union responded to this threat by establishing schools to train its members in linotype work and then demanding that only competent printers who knew every skill of the trade and had served a regular apprenticeship should be employed on the linotype machine. A series of strikes were fought over this issue. but ultimately the employers accepted the union's conditions. The ability of the machine to increase individual productivity was utilized by the union to decrease the hours of labor and to eliminate piece-rate payments. A similar problem was presented to the ITU by the use of matrices, by which a single advertisement or column could be reproduced in scores of newspapers or magazines without the need to set type. The

So I have seen several posts about the possibility of Casey Putsch who is running for Governor in the 2026 Ohio Republican primary, potentially getting crossover votes and causing concerns for Vivek Ramaswamy. I have fought since 2022 to close the Ohio primaries and end the ability of crossover votes. But the leadership of our state and party does not want primaries closed. Closing them would mean you need to register in advance as a Republican or Democrat and vote for the party's nominee you are registered with. Makes sense. Do you want the Steelers picking your quarterback for the Browns or Bengals? The argument against doing this is that we would infringe on people's right to choose if they are not registered as Republicans. Sounds like a pro abortion stance. Republicans should choose who their nominee is. Democrats should do the same.
