He/Him

“You yell 'Barracuda,' everybody says 'Huh? What?' Yell 'Shark,' we've got a panic on our hands on the 4th of July.”

I love film! My passions run toward horror, naturalism, microbudget, & emotional authenticity
It’s wild that the most interesting thing in Jay Kelly are men in orbits of various distance to George Clooney. Sandler, Crudup and Wilson are all great. Wilson’s performance, a fun bit of sleight of hand playing a guy who obviously doesn’t have the juice when he really does.

Can't tell if this was terrifying or if my weird emotional baggage made it terrifying just for me.

Netflix has completed second round negotiations for the acquisition of W.A.V.E. Productions. The sale is for a reported 1.2 million dollar mix of cash and stock and the first new W.A.V.E. after the sale features Tina Krause shrinking Chris Pratt and adding him to a salad.

One of those clowns who shares pirated movie folders and calls it “film preservation” on Twitter said Black Christmas (2006) exceeded the original in every way and I may die.

Honestly, I’m tired of people using “it’s AI” as their shorthand for “I don’t like this but I don’t like it with moral authority!” Learning to legitimately recognize the ear marks of AI is imperative to safeguard artists but wanton, unfounded accusations of AI can be legitimately damaging.

Really stoked for a new James L. Brooks movie but so bummed that Jamie Lee Curtis is in it.

Watched Octopussy last week and have been unable to get All Time High by Rita Coolidge out of my head since.

This is my fourth Thanksgiving completely alone. Have stuff in the fridge to cook but the “what’s the fucking point” demon has a good, strong hold of me. Why did I buy a turkey breast? I’m an asshole, alone, in Arizona. I don’t need cranberries. Fuck me.

Bugonia has the juice. Devastatingly cynical it posits that we’re too far gone for recovery as a species and is willing to dehumanize the 1% in a way that sticks. The commodification of medicine, endless strip malls serving the poor & corpo false liberty all treated as horror. Aidan Delbis is great.

My entire TikTok feed is people who live in Los Angeles talking about why Bakersfield sucks. What the hell did I watch?

I kinda wish my reaction to Shelby Oaks had been more intense but, in the end, all it had to offer was the reheated nachos of the visual language of the last 15 years of big indie horror. It stands in the same room as an idea sometimes but never acts on it. Empty fart of a movie.

Appears that the AI industry has speed run arriving at the same defense regulation and responsibility as the firearms industry.

There’s a bit in the final stretch of Eternity where Elizabeth Olson is running through red doors, wriggling under beds and escaping memories that is trying to spark a connection to dream language like Michel Gondry or Spike Jonze. Instead we get bureaucratic afterlife as empty aesthetic signifier.

It is not lost on me the irony that the same people saying bombing mosques, hospitals, and schools is acceptable because Hamas purportedly hides there simultaneously say synagogues cannot be peacefully protested when hosting events illegally selling stolen Palestinian land.

If I Had Legs I’d Kick You rejects the twee suburban momboss imagery found in Nightbitch for real, muddy moral complexity, inescapable gnawing social expectations, the towering demands of imperial children, and the illusion of self knowledge in bourgeoisie talk therapy. Rose Byrne is amazing. Aces.

Is Octopussy the most dadcore Bond movie? It’s a mediocre movie constantly at odds with itself but its many contradictions are what make it so compelling. Sticking Bond in full clown makeup seems like writers openly revolting against the presence of too old Roger Moore.

The Now You See Me movies are Ocean’s Eleven fanfic written by horny musical theater fans who have never seen an Ocean’s Eleven movie. Somehow, despite being directed the most talentless dipshits imaginable the cast’s charm is so great that I can’t help but have a good time.
