“Fellow soldier” is the wrong analogy to use here. Because when you have a line of soldiers, all it takes is one guy to break ranks and the whole formation collapses. Every soldier on the front lines needs to trust the guys next to him to hold the line.

If they can look me in the eye and tell me they do not regret staying home Election Day, then they are clueless, bigoted, and/or self-absorbed enough that I have to plan on them flaking out on me *again.* So sure I’ll encourage their money and their votes but that’s it, no further trust.

So you are certainly objectively correct that some people’s (including my own) venting is counterproductive and we need all the help we can get. I’m trying to make sure my anger is directed at useful targets.

The thing about this is how self-sabotaging it is for Trump. He didn’t wait for the ink to dry on Columbia’s capitulation statement before turning on them—and that shines a giant spotlight on how bad a deal this will be for any other uni considering following Columbia’s lead.
