Interesting new article that fits nicely within "The Building Blocs" research agenda (t.ly/us7kj), which we recently contributed to: t.ly/Dg6zK

We, as scholars of Europe, can learn from scholars of MENA, SE Asia, etc, who have long emphasized the role of civil society for party competition.

I have to confess to a misstatement: it was actually Schuster who was from Toronto. Stand by the Cleveland of the North.

Arguably really from the (then) Cleveland of the North, i.e., Toronto. Siegel’s home town.

Today, an @ipsosgroup.bsky.social report illustrates a point made by Wouter van der Brug (UvA) in the 1990s:

Successful far right parties are typically no more driven by a-political protest and no less driven by policy positions than other parties.

The PVV vote is driven by policy positions (67%).

New paper on urban-rural policy divides. We use 456 unique issue questions from 1993-present to show (1) large & persistent urban-rural issue divides, (2) especially large divides in cultural policy, and (3) no evidence that divides have grown over time. ejpr.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

The EU Commission & the WHO partner up to create a digital verification of health documents globally. This triggers social media speculation: loss of national sovereignty & limit personal freedoms. The actual goal is safe & free movement during disease outbreaks. No violation of state sovereignty.
An EU/WHO partnership on digital health certification will not lead to a loss of national sovereignt...
The partnership aims to create a voluntary global system of verified health documents to ensure safe and free movement during disease outbreaks
